Quote:
"Do not intermarry with them, and don't let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters. They will lead your young people away from me to worship other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and he will destroy you." (Deuteronomy 7:3-4)

Quote:
“Don't team up with those who are unbelievers. How can goodness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14)

I know that many Christains feel that marriage is a religious ceremony, and they don't want the government to allow marriages that God disapproves of.

But why stop at gay marriage? Why don't christians lobby to make it illegal for a Christian to marry non-christians, too? Would a lot of Christians be in favor of that?

That would help insulate Christians from charges of bigotry. They could show that they were serious about enforcing God view of marriage on non-believers, and they weren't just homophobic.

Unless, of course, they're just bigots, selectively using Christian doctrines to hurt people that are different then them.

So what say you, Christians? Shall we move to make it illegal for Christians to marry non-christians? Or do we stop trying to legislatively mandate Christian-only marriages?

You'd think that 2 Corinthians 6:14 would be altered by christians to be more PR.

The rules are there for a reason, and I can say as someone who married a non-christian that the Lord was OF COURSE right. My husband became a christian - but I chose the hard path. It is difficult to have a partnership (especially a marriage one) with someone who - llike yourself - mocks christianity or at the least questions it day in day out. So God in his wisdom warns christians NOT to go there for OUR good, OUR peace of Mind. God always puts his rules down because they are RIGHT. Society today is EVIDENCE of what happens when people ignore Gods rules and do what they like. God doesn't force us, he just advises us and warns us of the consequences to OURSELVES when we go on the wrong path. God is not a killyjoy. The devil is. He has come to seek and destroy those who are lost, God has come to give life and joy. Choose Gods way people - its ALWAYS the right way.

That's great, but you didn't answer the question.

Are you for the Government outlawing marriages between Christians and non-Christians?

And is the logic behind your answer consistent with your feelings about the government outlawing gay marriages?

They must first take baby steps toward their eventual goal.

Illegal??? Now way! The gov has no business in the bedroom. We are a country of secular laws and a secular gov. Actually the original question is moot.

to the esteemed op and his somewhat vexing question, an answer, possibly out of context, but fitting ~~~~

Oh goody.

I love it when people say that today's society is somehow morally lacking than in our yesteryears. It makes it that much more entertaining to watch them do mental gymnastics when you debunk that theory.

jennaflorrie, I ask for you to point me to a time in history when society and the way people acted was better than it is today (you don't have to stick to American History - branch out!). Point me to a time when we were all living in peace and harmony and everything was handy dandy.

Still looking? Go right on ahead; you'll probably never find it. Society has always been morally lacking and today is no different. It is foolhardy to suggest that we have no morals today when history clearly tells us the same about past societies and people. Quite absurd really.

Oh thank you for saying this! I argue the same thing! I hate it when people say "things are soooo bad today..." I just laugh and tell them to grab some history books! Things are better today in my opinion. But things being better today doesn't fit well will the "end times" theory.
