Many of the world's religions follow dietary food practices and customs (see link below). Except for Seventh-day Adventists, I'm not aware of any other Christian denomination that places any similar types of restrictions on specific foods. Why did Christians depart from that aspect of instruction mentioned in the Old testament?
The kinds of foods we eat won't get us into heaven. What we eat has an effect on our bodies but in no way can eating junk food or healthy food get you through those pearly gates.
I believe eating habits, according to the bible, ensures that we take care of our bodies as they house the soul. If we can't take care of the outside, we sure as heck can't take care of the inside. I think there is a statement from Jesus that goes something like, "What good does it do to clean the outside if the inside is not clean". (not quoted word for word) He was referencing a woman who was cleaning the tableware and she made a comment that it was not clean or something. I can't remember the incident all too clear.
He was Jewish, wasn't he? He would have followed the dietary laws.
That's what I was thinking. Is the reason why Christians do not adhere to dietary laws due to the way Christianity spread across the middle east and then the rest of the world, and imposing dietary practices would just have made it something impractical in attracting different people, especially among the poor?

Well, even in the Christian religion, we are supposed to watch what we eat too.
I, myself (a Born-Again Christian), do watch what I eat and drink. I drink no alcohol or anything with alcohol in it. I eat small portions and not after 8pm. I hardly, rarely ever eat sweets (candy, ice cream, etc). And I exercise 6 days a week (except on Sundays, going to church and doing the Sabbath; day of rest).
As Christian, we are supposed to follow a dietary regiment. But yes, most don't. But there are a few that do (like me).
Why did Christians depart from that aspect of instruction mentioned in the Old testament?
In a word....Ignorance. most christians today are what I like to call "bumper sticker" Christians. they go to church Sunday thru Monday, shun porn, and condemn cursing but will turn right around and eat a baseball steak or smother pork chops...ice cream...and all sorts of poison.
Christians should be eating like Christ ate: Vegan. but most are confused
