Nope, I swore off baptists in High School. When they told me I had to tell the whole congregation of the school and church that I was sorry for doing something that it was rumored I did.... after that I just figured they were all off their rocker. After all, who wants to live in eternal guilt? I have better things to do!

I am no longer christian, but I do have a personal opinion that alcohol abuse is about as close to "sinning" as one can get. I don't see any reason why people feel the need to drink such substances that muddy thinking, delay reaction time and ruin families. I guess I think the occasional drink is okay, but if one ever crosses over to needing alcohol; they have descended into "sinfulness" or, "inappropriateness." Some would say I am puritanical. I just don't like seeing people mess up their lives, and the lives of others with alcohol. I am interested in all responses, and I will happily concede, if you can present a strong argument for drinking alcohol. I know I feel this way, in part because my parents drank too much, and I drank too much in my twenties.
As for the nervous guy with the bag of beer. If it's a small town like mine; people feel they need to know your business, and the stories spread like wildfire.

People who don't drink usually don't have any good stories.

This afternoon I was making my selection in the craft brew section of a grocery store, I saw a guy rush in with a carry basket grocery stores have. He then rushed off to the check outs.

I made my selection, setting some good craft ales in my cart and headed to the check outs. There were lines, and this guy is standing there holding his basket of sinful beer looking very uncomfortable to say the least.

Guess he was scared he would be seen by another member of his church, or perhaps he was even the pastor. But that was my giggle for the day
The thing is you really don't know if the man was Christian or not, so, your assumption seems rather silly and foolish.

Who says the man was not muslim, or atheists, or falling back into an addiction. The fact or the matter is you don't know, but is making a foolish assumption.

The sober person's stories are more likely to be accurate and truthful though. I also find no need to alter my state of being with strong drink.

The odds of probability, here in the buckle of the bible belt, gives a very high probability I'm correct in my assumption, and your assumption is based on what, other than you don't like my original post?

Muslim, that is nothing more than a different cult believing in a different imaginary deity, and again within that belief system alcohol is a sin. Just change "christian" in my opening post to "believer of imaginary deity" and it fits perfectly. The majority of people here are christian, thus the assumption is again the most logical assumption.

Why do you never take just one baptist on a fishing trip? If you bring just one, he/she will drink all your beer.

I'm an active Southern Baptist and I would ask you the same thing I ask my fellow SBCer's:

Show me in the Bible where it's a sin to drink alcohol. Don't show me what it says about being drunk or drunkeness or the life of a drunkard, show me about the consumption of alcohol alone.

It isn't there.

Yes, the Baptist Covenant contains a VOLUNTARY agreement not to use alcohol as a beverage, but it is not Biblically based.
