I believe suicide is a felony is some states (as is attempted suicide), although I'm really curious how they plan on convicting a person who is already dead.

I think it has more to do with branding those who helped the person to successfully commit suicide (or supported the dicision to commit suicide) as a heartless criminal.
In my country the career of a politician who was openly for euthanasia was crushed.
Luckily, as time went by, euthanasia done by medical personnel under strict regulations is now legalized in Holland.

Adolf Hitler - Believed in Jesus, loved the Holy Spirit

Ghandi - Didn't believe in Jesus, loved humanity

An innocent baby that dies before Baptism.

A murderer that kills innocent children, but says he is sorry to Priest and prays rosary a few times

Can you tell which individuals go to heaven or to hell?

Whatever happens, I know being dead is very peaceful and pain/worry free. Probably like the best sleep of your life. Could be like it was before you were even conceived.

Usually the Christians trot out the water, ice and steam scenario as a way to describe the difference/similarity of God the father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

But the way that is written you could blaspheme God (water), Jesus (ice) but NEVER "Blaspheme the steam" or your in trouble. I suppose you could blaspheme the Holy Spirit and do the deathbed thing if you are lucky enough to be able to...........but if you die instantly you're certainly out of luck.

I am a Christian. A happy non-suicidle one. I was just wondering because well not recently but in the past I have been to funerals where the person commited suicide and people there are always saying things like 'Oh, he is in a better place now" and so on. I was told growing up that you do not get in to heaven if you do that?
It's one of the 10 commandments in the old testament...

"Thou shalt not kill." (Exodus 20:13) was referring to killing others, it does not cover yourself -- so, Bible said it's okay for you.

But, don't be stupid -- atheists are right, there is no "afterlife". You only got one life.

It says thou shalt not take a life unjust, including your own in the OT (they weren't so much against killing until someone rewrote it).

I am of several minds on this subject. There are times and circumstances wherein a suicide can be performed in self defense. Others are an honorable atonement for circumstances beyond ones' control, and......sometimes it is just cowardice.

Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, the "Desert Fox" of WW2, was given a choice of committing suicide and receiving a state funeral with his wife and family well cared for, or of being hauled into a courtroom and "tried", likely being hanged with piano wire. He committed suicide. Rather heroic, IMHO.

^well said, catman.
and it should be well remembered, where "civilization" is almost forced to have public debates on whether there exists a duty to die.
