Adventists did orginate here in the US, I believe back in 1840s under the name of Millerites...I don't know the date they changed the name to SDAs...

I am speaking of Elder Don Schneider and his family, both on his wife's side and his side.

Really wonderful loving people.

Adventists now can be found all over the world, schools, hospitals, churches.

I kind of do understand the holidays. I have been researching and it's a little strange that the Catholics took on Santa Claus and the Easter bunny. I am not sure why they didn't separate the Jewish holidays with Christ only Jesus birthday and Resurrection Day where it's ONLY about HIM!!
Why they brought in pagan symbols is confusing me. I understand this belief.
Birthdays I'm with you we should have something a least when we are little, I could do with out them now!!

This is the problem sometimes with being young, you forget it's about others and not just about YOU!!! My mom's birthday was special and she always knew I would remember!!!

I was just commenting about how when we are young we don't think of our mom as important, more like always telling us what to do. Guess I didn't explain it in detail enough!! I was talking about my niece who is 20. Sorry, if I came across as offending you!!!

I didn't read this entire thread but there were a few posts about dressing modestly. Maybe I shouldn't bring this up but over the years there have been a number of tv preachers, both men and women, whose manner of dress has been anything but modest. I've seen a few men who look like they just walked out of a gay pride march with Liberace like attire (no offense to gays) and I've seen women who looked like Ladies of the Evening, if you know what I mean. I know you've all seen them too so you know what I'm talking about. I can't imagine why a few piercings should get anybody all worked up. If I couldn't feel at ease going someplace dressed in a manner that feels right to me and I felt I had to wear a sort of costume to fit in I know I'd have a problem with it myself.

I sooooo understand it's hard sometimes to get your point across and then when you read someone is mad it's like With all the different personalities out there it's tough!! Just to let you know you seem like a person that can take a hit and come back with a respectful answer and that's what it's about!!!

The SDA church is BIG business. Based on the plagurized works of Ellen White...who studies have shown probably suffered from Temporal Lobe Epilepsy...a WHOLE church of people following along after the ravings of a head case.

LOL! I had to laugh out loud when I read this from Lisa! "...a WHOLE church of people following along after the ravings of a head case."

I'm a SDA, currently not practicing however. I just try to follow what Jesus stated as the most important commandment....love thy neighbor as thy self...I figure if I do this, as well as respect anyone else's beliefs - everything else falls into place. I'm AM a little confused about the birthday thing. I was raised a SDA and have never heard of any church that didn't observe personal birthdays! My church calendar even has member's birthdays on it! I'm betting that someone is confusing SDA's with Jehovah's Witnesses.

I have never heard of an SDA who thought you shouldn't celebrate birthdays...I agree, someone has confused JH with SDA.
