If a priest or nun takes a vow of chaste, why in the world would he want to tell everyone that he/she is a homosexual? If they talk about it , I would think they are lustful, which is also a sin. On the other hand, If I went to a priest to confess my sexual sins,(I am not catholic) I am looking for bible based answers, not his personal preferences..This is not only a Catholic problem, kids. I have seen it happen in the fundamental church I used to attend, he was a d---child pervert..The preacher, elders and deacons took up for him!!Blue didn't! Blue don't go there anymore!
You seem to be confusing chastity with sexual indifference or impotence. Chastity does not mean that you somehow lose all sexual attraction and desire. It means that you make a conscious choice to refrain from sexual intimacy of any kind whether you are gay or straight.
Irish, I am afraid that I don't watch much TV and the radio I listen to is a Christian radio station without news (yes, I am out of touch with the world). Is this true? And let me make sure I understood it correctly...There is an Episcopalian church with a priest who is gay and married to a man and practicing and leading this church?
Ok, Irish probably took a break...and yes Bishop Gene Robinson is a leader in the Episcopal church. He lives with his partner....don't know that it is marriage.

Just to be clear I'm not Episcopalian (sp?) so I don't really know what the stance of the church is on the issue. I just saw bits and pieces on the news. Here are some links to current stories about it:
Ok, so there is a big difference in Episcopalian and Catholic views on marriage anyway. I think the Episcopalian church will eventually split over the homosexual relationship issue. As for Catholic priests, don't they have to follow celibacy or marital rules (or the Vatican) to be a priest - even though they may disagree with the concept? I apologize for my ignorance on this.
Yes in order to become priests they have to accept the vow of celibacy. There have been ongoing debates over this for years. Many Catholic priests who come to believe they should have the ability to marry actually leave and go to the Episcopal church to become priests and are able to marry.

I think you are right they are not legally married (because it's still illegal and all) but they live together as married openly and their congretation recognized the partnership.

You must be new to this forum. There is a whole thread dedicated to the topic of the Episcopal Church and the fact that it ordains gay priests and embraces and welcomes gay people into the church in general.
Thank you Nana and Irish, I am still floored, but not interested in reading about it. I'll just stay ignorant! I usually get my "smut" news in the grocery line. haha
I think a few people have accurately described the situation. Homosexuality is something that's part of a person's psychology and doesn't have to involve sexual acts to define them as a homosexual. Look at it the other way. If a heterosexual is not active sexually for whatever reason that doesn't change their sexual orientation, they'll still always be heterosexual no matter how little sexual activity they have. That seems pretty clear to me. The word chaste is describing their chosen lifestyle but it doesn't change their sexual orientation.

Yes, new. And I find that I am becoming addicted. Any advice on how to just turn it off and fold laundry?
