Is religion nothing more than a glorified protection scheme?

A common phrase often heard is "saved by gods grace" and similar.

Of course if you say the right things, go to the right rituals, tithe to the church, pray to god, honor god, etc,. etc. you will be 'saved'. Saved from what, the wath of god or course Hmmmmm

Sounds like the gang that elicits protection money from a store, so the store won't be robbed, vandalized, burned, of course by the same gang.

Yes, it could be thought of that way, especially those religions which promote the concept of an afterlife. Who wants to die, after all?

Problem with that is, everyone has to, whether we like it or not. A glorified shaman making unsubstantiated promises can't change that. All the dogma, ritual, and splendid music can't change it either.

That is not correct! The only thing you're close on is "honor God".

The way to be saved is to realize you're a sinner, incapable of meeting God's standard by yourself, and instead rely on God's free gift of salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ.

A free gift is exactly that Free.
If we have to ask for it , it isn’t free.
And a gift can be given free without the recipient having to believe or even know about the giver.

Your belief system gives away no free gifts.

It is about having a personal relationship with the Lord,as Christians we want to have one with Him. It is not forced upon us nor do we tremble in fear or feel if we don't we will spend eternity in Hell it is that we want to be Christ-like pursue Heavenly aspirations instead of things of the world. It is a heart-felt thing not a rote ritual going through the motions that this relationship is built on, but saying that we give it all up to you Lord and that we can't do it ourselves by putting it in His hands. Like Jimmie said we first have to admit that we are sinners and that we need a Saviour.

Universalism is not Biblical!

Religion is a coercive scheme. It resorts intimidation and coercion to keep followers in.

The truth is no one in the world will live forever. There is no such thing as afterlife. A dead person has no life.

Religion wants you to believe otherwise. It tells you they have a bearded man who can toss you into a hell if you don't believe. Also, they want you to believe you are not okay from birth -- you got "sins". And you must therefore believe their religion, and keep on praying and paying churches. And, you are still not okay. In fact, you will always have "sins". Then, they told you the bearded man has a son who can save you from the "not-okayness" (savior). But, you'll never be okay -- you are a forever sinner. You must pray and pay all your life (savior does nothing).

As you can see religion is all BS.

If you don't believe that BS, then you'll be okay from all that BS. If you believe that BS, then you'll never be okay (you can not be redeemed by savior -- no body eva, eva did).

Some religious smart-asses already figure the above out, but they rather enjoy others being fooled by the religious lies (all religions are system of lies).

Anyone with a brain knows a dead person has no life. Do you know any dead person has a life?

Would you end your life for a better afterlife? Would anyone do that (not terrorist martyrs -- those are exceptions)?

Also, there are people who were technically dead and came back to life, none of them experienced shaking hands with God. Why would religion know what will happen to a dead person?

The body is dead, but what about the spirit?

Many people have come back from near-death experiences stories of an after-life experience.
