your entire argument is based on assumptions like this one. you are not the only one in the world that has lived outside of the walls of their own home. there are members of this board with more experience regardings sikhs than you. there are board members here with more experience in every facet of life that you consider yourself experienced in. same for me and everyone else.

Oh I see, I don't have much common ground with the ACLU crowd. I'm never going to agree, which is setting me up for an exercise in futility. And I do know what kind of exercise that can be, coz long back I tried wanking with a PC world magazine to break the common ground rule and I learned the hard way I wasn't getting an erection with that kind of magazine. You should at least try the Punjabi thali, it's off the hook, I hope.
another tangential, generalized, straw man-ad hominem.

i don't have anything to do with the aclu either, and i try very hard to avoid political correctness. i also, however, try very hard to avoid fallacious reasoning, which is something that you could work on.

your mistake is not that you are pointing out the fact that some terrorism has been enacted in the name of sikhism, but that you are making assumptions and generalizations based off of that.

further, you seem not to be able to separate rational thought from emotional response.

then, you merely attack any viewpoint that doesn't agree with you, create your straw man arguments in order to make yourself feel better, and then presume that anyone that disagrees with your viewpoint is obviously inexperienced or naive.

and i would wager that this is related to the overwhelming ego that you come into these threads with.

all in all, you seem to have a very unhealthy relationship with logical fallacies.

Terror in the mind of God: the ... - Google Books

Seems to have some on Sikh extremism. Most of this seems to relate to what's called "The Khalistan movement" which sounds like a mixed Religious/Nationalist movement in India largely involving the Punjab. Don't know what if anything this says of Sikhism.

I think if you lived in India at that time it probably did seem like Sikhs were crazy. They did keep elements of war imagery to remind them of past persecutions, and apparently their gurus did have armies in the seventeenth century, but they held a variety of political views. There is very little incidents in the US anyway except something I read concerning a group in Brooklyn.

Sikhs believe in peaceful coexistance , Oneness and brotherhood of mankind

Guru Nanak sahib founder of Sikhi says

ਆਈ ਪੰਥੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਮਾਤੀ; ਮਨਿ ਜੀਤੈ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤੁ ॥
See the brotherhood of all mankind as the highest order of Yogis; conquer your own mind, and conquer the world.

ਆਦੇਸੁ, ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ ॥
I bow to Him, I humbly bow.

ਆਦਿ ਅਨੀਲੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਅਨਾਹਤਿ; ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਸੁ ॥੨੮॥
The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||28||

Sikhs stood against oppression of Islamic empire ,therefore executed

i would like to say that in my experience of sikhs in the community i am a student within, i have encountered about 10 or so sikhs. all of whom share certain characteristics. These are: they tend to stick together, and do not allow anyone who isnt sikh into their group. they do socialise with others, but also shun them out if they try to come any closer. they tend to be very judgemental and harsh. they like to gossip about the bad doings of others and like to form a judgement and then exclude that person in ways. i have experienced this first hand, and have witnessed it second hand. and i would like to mention that this goes against the "equality" and "non-violence" qualities they base their religion on.I do not hate them. i am merely pointing out my experience.

Sikh Beliefs
The Sikh Gurus practiced what they preached for well over 200 years and the Sikh beliefs are born out of their examples and sacred writings. Due to this, Sikhs have a strong base when it comes to beliefs. Some of the major Sikh beliefs are.

1) One God
God is the Creator of the Universe
God isn't born and will never die
God is present everywhere

2) Equality
All human beings are equal
People of all religions and races are welcome in Sikh Gurdwaras Women have equal status with men in religious services and ceremonies

3) Birth and Death
After a person dies, his soul is born again in another body, human or animal
One's next life depends on his deeds in the past life
The human life is supreme and it is through this life that we can achieve oneness with God
Finding God takes us out of this life cycle

4) Non-Violence
Sikhs are a peace loving people and stand for Truth and Justice Guru Gobind Singh Ji said, "It is right to use force as a last resort when all other peaceful means fail."

sounds like they've hit on a few basic truths of vaishnavism-identicle actually
