As a devout Christian, I find Rick Warren's tactics to be cultish and self serving.
Why doesn't he open his checkbook and use the profits from his book "Purpose DRiven Life" to bail out his church. Or is just in the "What's mine is mine, what's their's is mine" mentality?
Rick Warren is no better than that slap happy phony faith healer Benny Hinn.
Due to the success of his book sales, in 2005 Warren returned his 25 years of salary to the church and discontinued taking a salary. He says he and his wife became "reverse tithers", giving away 90% of their income and living off 10%.
As the money has rolled in from his book, Warren stopped taking his $110,000 annual salary and repaid the church for his 25 years of salary since its founding. He and his wife became "reverse tithers," he said, keeping 10 percent of their income and giving away the rest, including $13 million in 2004.
"The Rev. Rick Warren has pleaded to parishioners of his Christian mega church for donations to fill a $900,000 gap in the budget.
Warren, who has campaigned for the passage of Proposition 8, sent an urgent letter to followers of the Saddleback Church on December 30, saying that he needed the money within 48 hours."
I thought this guy was a billionaire. I smell a rat.
Maybe if they hadn't put so much money into a hateful propeganda campaign to deny a minority their fair share of equal civil rights, they wouldn't be "broke".

Does not take a salary from saddleback, and gave back all salary he recieved prior to his best seller.
Sounds like he's walking the walk, financially speaking.
Regarding prop 8. All sides have a right to support their interests.
Even "The Advocate" ( hardly a neutral player )
Firstly, so he SAYS. Churches are exempt from any requirement to show their financial records.
Secondly, regarding Prop 8. People are certainly within their rights to support their interests, WITHIN their states on state referendums, and religious organizations are NOT permitted to become invovled in scuh secular government activities as constitutional amendments.
While Saddleback is certainly in CA, it is certainly a religious organization, not to mention that much of the support for Prop 8 poured in from Utah.
