2 Corinthians 4:4

The devil who rules this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe. They cannot see the light of the Good News -- the Good News about the glory of Christ, who is exactly like God.

I think it's typical self-serving egotistical religious propaganda.

But that's just me.

I might think that if it were out of the mouth of a fanatical, but it's in the Bible. Do you think the Bible is propaganda?

Let me guess, that passage was written by Saul/Paul, the first evangelist. It smacks of "We're so great! We're so enlightened! Everyone else is a slack-jawed idjit!"

Part of the Bible, particularly the parts Paul wrote, were indeed propaganda to forward his new religion.

FYI, I'm not a Christian (ex-Christian to be specific). This section of the forums has all kinds. If you're looking for Christian-only opinions on the passage, you'll be better off in the Christianity sub-forum. Out here, you'll get all kinds of opinions.

Satan seeks to divide the saints & in the case of this passage, keep the unsaved lost.

I think that is is ridiculous as there is no such thing as a "devil". Bogeymen are ficticious beings designed to scare people. Children are frightened of bogeymen because they are children. But when one has educated themselves on the origins on the Christian Satan, you realize that he is just another bogeyman. He was designed to frighten people into believing in a faith and/or church. Once that reality is clear, you ignore such things.

Now, that being said, an interesting fragment from it: "...the glory of Christ, who is the image of God" (NIV). Does that imply that Paul was saying the Jesus was NOT god, but rather the image of god? If so, then are not we ostensibly created in the image of god? If that is the case the it could be argued that Jesus was merely a man. Of course, this has been my position for some time (as well as that of the original Christians in Judea).

And yet, two of His disciples called Him God. John & Thomas.

The Book of John is so suspect in it's authorship and subsequent translations, that is not worthy as any basis for consideration of Yeshua of Nazareth being a man/god.

Also, consider that we exclaim the words "My god!" at many things. If this account were true, is it not possible that Thomas was exclaiming "My lord" to Jesus and "my God" to Yahweh alone rather than to Jesus?

I think the passage is nothing special, just typical Christian boilerplate. It can be boiled down to "We're right and everyone else is wrong".
