@ saly: And in the English-speaking world we refer to the 5th day of the week as Thursday, named after the Norse god Thor.

I guess, by your reasoning (simple utterance), Thor is real as well.

Why don't you just say, 'All gods are myths....except for the one I believe in'.

We also say Thursday quite often. By your logic, that gives us proof that Thor is real. Somehow I think there's a hole in your reasoning.

It's not a hole, it's a cognitive round-about.

Default Mutton-minds anyone?

My recent thread about what "objectivity" means to some was a result of just the sort of irrational & offbeat thinking and assertive statements that pervades the theist's posts in many of these threads.

They conclude things are "proved" by the most banal, simplistic statements: Thus "Oh My God" proves there's a God, and only one?

Yikes. Get that man away from anything important!

Common usage of some phrase is only because we've heard, and then adopted it. What would this poster do with the common phrase "Holy Sh*t!" Fervently pray to excretia?

Our middle-school kids think so much of their own "coolness" as they start to use the "F" word in their everyday language. Does than mean they are all "doing it" in gym class? Alternately, what does it prove? Same thing as mindless, dogmatic belief in Christianity proves: that most people are easily swept up by the mass appeal and feeding frenzy mentality of cult religion, popular beliefs or catchy phrases.

I mean, why stop and critically examine anything? "BBbbaaahhhhhhh..."

The utter lack of true Objectivity in all theistic arguments posted here is appalling, but it has been instructional as to the degree that they happily and purposefully delude themselves. but then, sadly, they try to convince us, to sell their worldview to others. As long as they have access to children (school, or Sunday School) they'll keep the fizzled flame of ignorance alive. Fortunately, at least in public schools, we're winning, hands down.

Default Why blame atheists for not being able to believe in god?

In a word, "convenience."

It is easier to try to take somebody on a guilt trip than to question something that is part of the foundation of your own identity. The thought of what you once held to be true collapsing and turning out to be nothing more than a delusion isn't too appealing. These are minds that seek comfort, not truth. It's intellectual laziness.
