Does anyone other than myself wonder why these creators of universes reveal themselves only on a relatively small regional basis? After all, god's who created a universe as vastly large as the one in which we live confined their revelations to man to only small portions of mankind. Yaweh and Allah revealed themselves only to small nomadic people of the middle east, while another set of gods revealed themselves only to their respective "chosen people."

How parochial these great god have been.

One would think that if there was an omnipotent god, creator of a vast universe, that we would find individuals scattered across the breath of mankind who would, at the very least, receive notice that god existed in some concurrent manner. A prophet in Asia, another in Sub-Saharan Africa, and another in the Americas all receiving the same word of god, the same laws, the same divine revelations all at the same time. But we don't. None of the holy books even acknowledge the existence of god's other children, children who for centuries would remain totally ignorant of the existence of their divinely created kin.

I find that curious.

Parochialism . . like beauty . . . is in the eye of the beholder. There is ONLY ONE God, period.

Our connection with God is NOT through our sensory system. This is the main complaint of atheists who have made no provision for accessing God in any other way. This makes the interpretation of any contact with God subjective and limited to the knowledge, experience, culture, etc. of the individuals. However, the fact that ALL cultures DO HAVE such reported contacts or beliefs is consistent with God's existence.

No, it simply means that all humans everywhere feel a need to explain the unknown in order to lessen or alleviate the fear of such.....Thus the invention of gods.

I have to agree. This unique God also seems takes on the cultural tones of that particular region-even though he/she/it is purported to have created the whole universe . Do we even know if there are human like creatures in the billions and billions of planets and star systems? Why do you think God takes on a form and even seems to be clothed in the garb and customs of the local place where they were "found"

The unkown is still unkown even today, with all our scientific instruments. It must have been even more frightening in those days and they attempted to explain it in their terms and with what they understood. Then as time wen't on, religion became big business and a way and means to control your populace and bend it to your will. What better way to control people when nobody knew the cause of diseases and such. When we get plague, we know what causes it. In those days, you didn't and the religionistas stepped in with their explanations. They certainly made a great living, telling people things that can't be proven or disproved , making themselves the intermediary between this God and the masses and even today it still continues.

Well, Sanspeur, and smh1, to my way of thinking the anthropomorphic and ethnocentric nature of the depictions of gods is more than telling. I suppose one could argue that god revealed itself in a manner most acceptable to the local inhabitants, of course that assumes that god(s) waited for quite sometime, allowing for those cultural distinctions to give rise before introducing itself which is also highly dubious.

Isn't that a particularly unique "creation" or "invention" for a physical species with completely deterministic minds driven only by biochemical reactions?
