Default When does a baby get a soul?

The "Where do Souls come from" thread made me think of this one.

At what point in the process of pregnancy do you think life begins and therefore a soul is present in the womb?

I personally think it is not present until the blastocyst attaches to the uterus (approximately 1 week after conception) because there is no pregancy until that point and I don't think God would send a soul in until there is an actual pregnancy, a fool's errand so to speak. This just be because I tend to look at things through a medical view when it comes to the body. But I was interested what everyone else thought.

Depends on what you mean by "soul." Let's define our terms first.

Oh, God, Mark, I don't know! MUST you always be such a pain! (Just kidding, pookie.)

A soul is...you know...a soul. A...thing. You know. An invisible...thing. A sort of you-thing.

Hope that cleared things up.

I believe at moment of conception we have a soul. Jeremiah 1:5 "I knew you before I formed you in your mothers womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world". I believe God knows us all before we were even conceived.

I know and believe this but I think the bolded part leaves room for interpretation as to when the baby is formed. Does that make sense? Conception can take place with out pregnancy and does so more often than you may think....so do you think each conception even it if doesn't produce a pregnancy has a soul? What happens to all of them?

Irishmom...well, we certainly won't be able to settle this, but, personally, I think a more appropriate question would be: When does a soul get a baby? Even though the prospective parents are probably not thinking at all about this when conception takes place, I personally believe the soul's intent to incarnate into matter has already set the stage, and the divine spark and soul have willed their plan at the time of the conception. All that said, it's a fascinating topic to ponder, and one that's strongly tied to our individual perceptions and beliefs.

Yes I do believe every conception even though the baby is lost in miscarriage has a soul and I believe it goes to Heaven, just same as if the baby was born and then died. Your children are in Heaven with Jesus.

Oh I like this! This goes well with my belief that God sends you the baby you are supposed to have when you are supposed to have it. Hmmmm, I may have to rethink what I thought about the souls of the babies I lost now. Thanks!

I agree with ILNC. I believe that the soul is assigned/given/born/whatever at the time of conception. I believe that each conception is a gift from God. That there are no accidents in pregnancy. Yes, there are miscarriages. But at that time I believe that the soul is returned to God. Now I don't know what happens at that point. Does the soul live out the rest of eternity with God or is it returned to another womb at another time? If you have read my story in the testimonies thread, you will see that I believe that God placed the soul of my lost child back in my womb. Sounds crazy, I know, but some day I hope to know the answer. (Oh, and I also agree with what JerZ said...I think)

God Bless us All...
