I think I'll just believe that it did happen. It's a scientist's faith thing, my new mantra.
Oh Son-of-God particle, smallest in the universe, we beseech you. Why are we here, molecularly speaking? Our transient intermolecular forces are too straightforward for us to understand, too micro-simple for chance, and so you are our savior, our gluey thing, the "string theory" that ties our honey-baked ham together.
In your nano-name we praise thy benign littleness, thy Holy Smoke!
(Wait... That control panel's not supposed to be smoking again! Shut her down, boys!)
In France, the Large Hadron Collider is set to begin it's decades of discovery, of possibly uncovering the truth about some predicted particle(s), of the most elemental components of all atoms and molecules that make up the universe, but more importantly, you and I. Such information may well tell us more of how such things interact, and possibly, their origins.
Alarmists predictably love to chant that it may create a tiny, but malicious infant black hole that, like a black plague, will spread and annihilate the entire universe, starting with us, screaming like we're in an old B-grade Horror Movie as the churning mass of "nothingness" advances, unstoppable, towards our frantically praying families, schools, high-rises, Wall Street, desperately paddling polar bears and Churches.
(NOTE TO ALARMISTS: of course, it didn't happen....)
(Sayyyyyy.... maybe I should do the screenplay.... "The End of The Universe", starring rifleman. Hmmmm...... Yeahhhhh......)
And the Christian perspective? That of the open-minded and educated citizen? The amateur scientists out there? Your kids?
How does this amazing testament to man's appetite and search for knowledge and The Truth sit with you and your belief systems. Atheists; absent such a formalized system, nonetheless, how does it potentially impact or interest you?
I wonder if whatever they discover if it will end up being used to control society. Not that that is bad in and of itself. If mankind were uncontrolled we'd probably wipe ourselves out.
I don't think they have time or an inkling to create a Death Ray, or Stun Gun or Darwinian Thought Variant Device (DarThVaD-er. Get it? Hee hee.).
They' only looking for a predicted tiny particle. If they find it, it will sorta mega-confirm a particular Big Bang model which nonetheless the devout fundamentalist Intransigent Dogmo-Theists will not accept. No matter how convincing the results.

I sincerely doubt that these governments would spend multiplied billions of dollars just to confirm a big bang theory.
Are there extra dimensions,[23] as predicted by various models inspired by string theory, and can we detect them?[24]
Other questions are:
Are electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force and the weak nuclear force just different manifestations of a single unified force, as predicted by various Grand Unification Theories?
Why is gravity so many orders of magnitude weaker than the other three fundamental forces? See also Hierarchy problem.
Are there additional sources of quark flavours, beyond those already predicted within the Standard Model?
Why are there apparent violations of the symmetry between matter and antimatter? See also CP violation.
What was the nature of the quark-gluon plasma in the early universe? This will be investigated by ion collisions in ALICE. Wikipedia
i for one don't believe that all the mater in the universe was crammed into one single particle.. big bang theory is just that a theory.. i believe that a chain reaction caused the expanding univeres, not one massive explosion but a chain reaction caused by a ancient intelligent life form trying the same thing we are doing.. and by doing so they triggered the partical destroying process which is still going outward.
haarp is another thing that should be left alone, we are to willing to experiment with our fragile planets operating systems.. when you go into you computers operating system and a promp pops up and says>> by changing settings on your operating system you could damage your computer!!!>> do you do it!!
if there is a god force it would not let intelligent life forms understand the full understanding of the universe. if a intelligent life form could understand all the mechanics of the universe they could become as powerful as god himself.. god forces would not let that happen
Maybe...IF there is a "god force". The theoretical god force might actually want us to become fellow gods. How dare you claim to understand what the putative god force might or might not want?
Reps to you, Eusebuis. Wish I could give yah 2 for this one! Well summarized. Completely agreed: I don't believe that they're just trying to prove the BB, but a Higgs boson particle will, as you so nicely said, support or clarify a lot of currently "dodgy" hypothesies! The possibility of it bolstering the BB is, of course, the focal point of fundamentalists' concerns and criticisms. Even if it is conclusively found, the resulting discussions will be dismissed by dedicated Christian critics. Again, I'm reminded of that guy in the movie Contact, played by Jake Busey, who ends up sabotaging the "device" to prevent any anti-Christian discoveries. His efforts are, of course, foiled, as will all strategies to hide the truth.

(reluctantly snipped for brevity)
We can assume that God does want us to know, because the LHC device is now working, and as well, He didn't cripple the Hubble telescope, which has allowed us to look back in time to the beginning moments of the universe.
