CRC lifts barrier to female ministers

GRAND RAPIDS -- History came quietly to the Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday night, but progress remains to be made.
That was the feeling of longtime advocates of women's ordination who watched the CRC Synod remove the word "male" from its requirements for church office.
After 37 years of back-and-forth struggle, delegates opened the way for women to become ministers in any of the CRC's 1,000-plus churches. If other proposed changes are approved as expected today, women also will be able to serve as delegates to the Synod for the first time.
The decision came two days after the CRC celebrated its 150th anniversary -- and not a moment too soon for Carol Rottman and Claudia Beversluis.....
The Christian Reformed Church is slowly moving in the direction of giving women the ability to be leaders in their churches. Do you feel women should be allowed to hold positions as ministers, priests, pastors and other religious leadership positions?
Sorry if this topic has been brought up before. I believe it is long overdue, and about time the Catholic Church stopped living in the dark ages and treating women as a lesser species (IMHO).
And if women are lesser beings, shouldn't we men have them wear head-scarves and walk behind us then? (Playing DA)
Well, in bible times, women were ministers but they did not lead congregation services or hold the position of 'overseer'. If the situation arose where they would be required to temporarily hold the position reserved for a man, they wore a head covering to show submission to God's arrangment.
We have a female pastor in our church but she is under the direction of the head pastor. She leads a Bible study and gives a talk now and then but that's about it. All the main responsiblities and leadership are under the head pastor who is male.
I feel like the bible sets the guidelines for us so I don't believe women are supposed to be the leaders, myself.
I agree 100%! Being a woman, I do not agree with women in leadership within the church. Sunday School...YES: Women's Bible Study...YES: other ministries...depending on the ministry.
Men are the leaders...at home and in the church. Of course there are exceptions to that if the man is not walking strongly in his faith or a good solid leader at home (without being abusive).
Overall, I (JMHO ) I believe that men are better LEADERS! But women are better when it comes to younger children. It's that way for a reason
The New Testament speaks of strong, influential spiritual women; but that women can't have authority over a man in church.
"Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church"
The context of that statement (and its seeming harshness) comes from the disorder in the Corinthian services, so that they will "Let all things be done decently and in order".
In Ephesians 5:19 we orders that everyone Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord"", so obviously women can speak in church.
Paul speaks of this again in I Timothy 2:
"I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women[a] will be saved[b] through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety
Amen!! Please leave the leadership at church and in the family and for that matter, in the Presidency of the U.S. as well to the men!!
Oh my yes! And a great job they've done of it, too. Can I hear an amen! By the way, the word is aMEN. Did you think that was just a coincidence? (/giving everyone a deep "ah-ha" look)
It would be very hard for us women to be leaders of any group at all. You need to know how to read first, and what does reading have to do with dishes and servicing my husband on command, anyway? I mean geesh.
Everybody come on over to my house. Cause tonight we're gonna party like it's sixteen ninety-nine! Can I get that plate for you?
