Belief in God and the supernatural predates atheism or at least predates philosophical materialism.


Hummmmm, it also predates, the written language, logic, mathematics, and logic ---to name but a few.

"It takes faith to be an atheist" is a spurious argument, invented by the religious in order to defend themselves with, "Well, you've got faith too." All being an atheist means is that one doesn't believe in a god. There may even be one hiding behind a comet somewhere, but insufficient data exists to believe in it.
