depends. Personally I would not live in Stead. The problem with the area off north 395 is the downhill slide into town. When the road is snowy or icy the road is a problem. Many of the residents north of town don't have snow tires or even much tread on their existing tires, getting hit by someone coming down the freeway sideways can wreck your day.

If I were you, I would look south of town, higher incomes, nicer places, Pleasant Valley is a great place to live, the west side of Washoe Valley, not the east side! is also great.

If you can afford more buy somewhere else. Usually higher priced properties = better quality neighbors.

I've heard Ted Hunsberger Elementary is one of the best in the area.

What are house prices like in that area? Other good areas?

Thanks,
Ted Hunsberger E. School is probably one of the best in Reno-Sparks. That area (89511) is arguably the best in Reno-Sparks. With it's proximity to Lake Tahoe, but still not too far from Downtown Reno.

  • The zip code in that area is 89511.
  • Area 165: Reno-South Suburban.
  • $230,00 was the lowest I could find in that zip code. $2,500,000 was the highest.
Hope it helps BilllyBob.

The elevation in Stead is higher than the Reno "valley floor" we like to call it. I live in the North Valleys, which isn't quite to Stead and I love this area. Actual "stead" to me means everything off stead BLVD and close to it... not so nice. But Red Baron has lots of newer nice homes, and is kind of a bedroom community. Check out the North Valleys, especially Golden Valley one of my favorites!

It will snow at my house and not at my sister's who lives in South Meadows!

OH AND WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED HIGHNLIFE WOULDN'T LIVE IN STEAD!!!

Let me just tell you, I drive a Honda Accord, no snow tires, and no chains, and I have yet to have a problem "sliding" into town (in 4 years). Don't get me wrong, it does get icy and slippery and snowy... but would you please LEARN HOW TO DRIVE! and then you would be fine...
