Cool Possible move to Reno

I need to know about the employment in Reno,NV, is it really that bad? We live in Yuma,Arizona and the unemployment rate here is at 26% , so any change from that would be great. We went to Reno a few months ago to check on some homes for rent and found nothing reasonable, even in this economy, so where could I find a non crime ridden neighborhood, cheap rent , say $ 700.00, we found some palces the last time we were there and they were crap to say the least. They were horrible, There are four adults and one little one (two months old ). WE would be looking for work once we get a place to rent as it seems that applying over the internet does not work. I applied to several places via the internet to Reni and Sparks and received nothing back. So having a address there hopefully get you that job. So any assistance wold be great, thanks.

Vern

Are you kidding about the employment here? there ARE jobs, but we are still the state of nevada, with the HIGHEST overall unemployment rate of any state. What is it that you do now and why do you want to move to Reno? There are 4 adults that want to rent somewhere for less than 700? yea that's probably not gonna be doable, considering you at least want 2 bedrooms and a third for the little one? There are some decent apartments by Meadowood mall my sister lived in but probably too small for that many people. Look on craigslist for jobs in the background that you have, and see what is out there. I like Reno, but it's not all that great right now for employment. Good luck

Thanks for the info Verde, seems like anywhere I search the job situation sucks. So I will keep searching although I just applied for three shipping receiving jobs online for Reno and the fountain valley area? Where is fountain valley?

Thanks again.

There are jobs here but they disappear as fast as they are posted. As far as a decent living situation for $700, last time I checked Southridge in Northwest Reno had some good deals going on and I think that area is very nice. Good luck

I live in orange county CA. I'm also looking to relocate to reno because it is large enough my wife can go shopping and see a show. It is close to great fishing and hunting for me. Hopefully big enoough we could get some decent jobs...

anyways my point is. I am a plumber. I do every kind of plumbing and not to toot my own horn but i'm the best dang plumber I have ever met even better then the owners of the companies I work for. I have my contractor license, journeyman license. I'm clean cut, no tattoos, smell good, and I don't do meth. I'm the perfect candidate for employment. Up until 2008 I had never had an interview and not got a job. Let me tell you even in the OC where the economy must be hundreds or thousands of times bigger then reno I cannot get a job. My wife has a molecular biology degree from santa barbra , the 6th best school for molecular bio. she makes 15 bucks and hour and had to start at 12 bucks an hour for 6 months. I sit at home and contemplate suicide mostly. No matter how much I advertise no one calls my buisness. No matter how many jobs I apply to I don't get them. Someone else will do it for half the price and has 50 years experience but his children are starving so he would clean your toilet with his tongue if he had to. The few jobs I have gotten I have taken 25% pay cut over what I made 4 years ago even though I have way more skills now. those jobs are short and unstable they always lay me off after the project is done. Even lowes and home depot won't hire me they say i'm over qualified.

My point is that is sucks everywhere you go and reno sure isn't going to be better. Not to rain on your parade but if you go without a job expect to spend all your savings and end up out on the street long before you find a job. I got 30 grand in the bank and i'd love to go to reno and try to get established but I'd probably end up loosing all my money and haveing to come back to the OC. Luckily my father allowed me and my wife to move in with him if not we would be in a cardboard box.

I hope it works out for you but i'm just saying be careful. It is not a good time to move anyplace without a job, not even los angeles , one of the largest job markets on the planet.

Who is "We" Vern? I have a 3 room suite with living room for rent at your price in a lovely gated community. But you need to be employed first.
