JFK, don't forget the Mustang Ranch.

You might like Dayton, and Pyramid Lake is desolate, but interesting. You might drop by Carson City and shake hands with the new Gov.

traitor

It's been a million years but I would think the Virginia City would be the best bet.

Virginia City would be best for that, and it's a fun town with a whole lot of history. The Boot Hill is right out of an old west movie, and maybe even a Gothic version of an old west movie.

Truckee might even be better for shops, but it's been a long time since I compared the two.

I also highly recommend going over Donner Pass to Nevada City, CA. You'll enjoy it, plus there are all the nice little shops you'll ever want to find in Nevada City and Grass Valley. Take you 90 minutes, and just crossing the Sierras is worth the trip. Nevada City

Thanks, Buzz...90 minutes is definitely within range. I assume that The Donner Pass is the stretch where the Donner's all got wiped out on.

There is Donner State Park near Truckee where the Donner Party spent the winter. Nice little museum and some monuments www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=503 It will probably be cold and might be snowing when you're here.
