Hi

We have been living in Las Vegas (Summerlin Area) for the past 2 years. Now we have a possible move to Reno. I am looking for some comparisons in terms of cost of living , rental , weather, family friendliness etc between Las Vegas and Reno. We are not much into Casinos or the glamour and glitz of Vegas (except for few outing to try the buffets). But we have liked Summerlin Area so far. Any similar areas in Reno to look for.

regards

There are plenty of areas to choose from; Reno is nothing like Las Vegas with regard to the casino scene. You can live within a mile of a casino in Reno and have no idea the casino exists. There is no huge strip of casinos, while there are casinos in downtown (four good sized ones), our downtown is more about the Truckee River Arts District, good food, baseball, concerts etc...totally different feel.

Cost of living is similar (especially now with things as depressed as they are in Vegas), there are distinct seasons and the community has very deep roots (far less transient/new than Vegas), you will find the location is a great place to raise children. Clean air, no "trashy" billboards littering up your drive (okay...that is my opinion due to some of the lewd billboards I've seen lately in Vegas) and great outdoor activities for the faily to enjoy...

Good luck with your decision and if you choose Reno....WELCOME!!!

Thank you for the responses.

Our work is around 6100 Neli Road , 89511 . Are there any good apartments in the neighboorhood. We are looking for some apartment near to some walking trails or parks , library etc. We have a 2 year old so right now schools does not matter. Just a good family friendly neighboordhood. A 15-20 minutes commute to work is also fine with us.

You might want to check out the Vintage South Meadows --- it has a private lake with walking path an a childrens playground. It would be an easy commute to your work location.

Do know this, just about everything in Reno/Sparks is 15 minutes from anywhere....it is a very easy community to navigate : )
