I will be moving to Reno within the next few months and have no idea where to start looking. I am single, no children, like to go out a bit. I am ok being in a suburban area, but not far from the city. Where would you all suggest I look for an apartment?

Yeah the Riverwalk is definitely what I would recommend, although not if you want to be in the suburbs.

The riverwalk/downtown is where most bars, restaurants, theaters, coffee shops, etc are. Its a cool area craigslist is probably the best for looking for apts. There are some great deals some highrise condos in that area.

I don't know how old you are but naturally the area around the University has a lot of young people as well.

I've never heard of the riverwalk as an area of town unless you're talking about the area where homeless like to camp. If you like to go out a lot, downtown Reno has pretty much most of the singles night life, so you're better off walking and not driving drunk. Downtown is a bit run down. I'd recommend Cal Ave (short for California Avenue roughly between Virginia Street and Arlington) and that general area which is within seven blocks of downtown. Cal Ave also has four bars. The Cal Ave area is a part of Midtown Reno which has had a revival and a lot of nice boutique and independent stores and restaurants. I think you'll really like the trendy, 20/30-something neighborhood. You can live in the suburbs if you want a stale boring neighborhood. The only trade off is the suburbs have nicer, newer apartments while Midtown tends to have older rental houses, rooms, and very few apartments. However, keep in mind, house rentals now are very cheap. Of course, a lot of condo's downtown are being rented out real cheap, and many are newer, so that's another option. Oh yeah, and if you want to camp by the river there's the Riverwalk District, but of course, you'll get a ticket bc it's now illegal to camp by the river.
