Default Reno Info and Tahoe Commute???

Is it possible to make a commute from Reno to North lake Tahoe? I may have an offer in North Lake Tahoe, but the real estate is $$$$$$$. Reno seems reasonable, is the commute possible, and does Reno have major gang problems, crime.

I don't think the commute will be too bad, unless you get a bad winter snowstorm and the snowplows can't keep up.

I'm looking to do basically the same thing. I have a job offer in Truckee, and am looking at relocating to Reno and making the commute daily.

My buddy (the guy who offered me the job) lives in Reno and commutes to Truckee, and says that the commute isn't too bad, and if I-80 happens to be closed at the pass, all traffic gets re-routed across the Mt. Rose Highway, which normally stays open.

Hope that helps.

The commute from Reno to Truckee is fine. If the pass is closed locals are allowed through to Truckee.
If the pass is closed Mt Rose Highway will be a mess, it is a twisting two lane road rising to over 8,000 ft. although there are people that commute it daily.

Far better to take 89 south. To Tahoe City.

Because of home prices in Truckee Tahoe it is common to live in Reno and commute to Truckee, I will warn you, the drive gets old after 10 or 20 years.

We do the opposite, live in Truckee and commute to Reno.... Wanna buy a house in Truckee? homesale
