I'm driving from Reno to Portland Oregon and want the fastest route. Anybody with experience / information / suggestions would be great. Here is what Google Maps routes:
3.
Take the ramp onto I-80 E
4.
Take exit 15 to merge onto US-395 N toward Susanville
5.
Continue onto CA-36 W
6.
Turn right onto CA-139 N/Ash St
Continue to follow CA-139 N
7.
Turn left to stay on CA-139 N
8.
Continue onto OR-39 N/Hatfield Hwy
9.
Turn right onto OR-39 N/Crater Lake Pkwy
Continue to follow OR-39 N
10.
Continue onto US-97 N/The Dalles-California Hwy
11.
Exit on the left onto OR-58 W toward Oakridge/Eugene
12.
Merge onto I-5 N/OR-99 N via the ramp to Eugene

I would just head northwest to hit I-5 at Shasta and head straight up I-5 to Portland. It should take about 9 hours.

During the summer? Interstate 80 west, go around the north side of Sacramento, take Interstate 5 north. If you try to take back roads you are going to be going slow behind a lot of motor homes going to the camp grounds. Passing is almost impossible due to the winding roads and all the slow motor homes going the other direction.
