I'd be interested in hearing from you if you grew up in the Reno/Sparks area. What did you like about it? What was your favorite aspect?

Definitely didn't grow up there but I have family there and go back once every year or two. Just got back maybe a month ago from a trip actually, but there are a few things I like and a few things I don't. I like just about everything except the lack of rain (at least compared to here in Colorado), the huge number of cops, how there's no acceleration lanes on the highway ramps and the crazy roadwork EVERYWHERE. Other than that I really liked the Reno area, the food is great, the casinos are pretty, and the people are nice

I grew up in Sparks, lived there from @1960/61 through 1985, and on and off since. Lived in Reno a little, too, but mostly Sparks: Prater Way, Rock Blvd. Sparks High, Deer Park, Hymer Ave., those areas mostly. Are you looking for specific info? I liked when Reno and Sparks still were separated by empty spaces. My mother worked at the Nugget in the Pancake Parlor, so I hung around there a lot. She later worked at Clarkson's Market on Kietzke Lane. I worked at Lynch Communications, Mill by McCarren.

I visited my Uncle and Aunt many many times from about 1980 till 85 or 86. As a kid I always loved being treated to a great meal every day!

Then in 2009 we moved there for a year and just wasn't the same. Now we live in TN and are working on Relocating back there for everything else we love about Reno.

The scenery, The weather, The lack of traffic compared to where we are at now, The food. If your ever near the Nugget down in Victorian Square you must eat at the Blind Onion pizza joint! The coldest beer in town! I miss it every time we order dominos or the Hut!

Default Relocating

I've thought about moving back there over the years but every time I visit, I change my mind LOL But I do miss the access to the mountains, Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, the Sierra range, camping and fishing, short drive to Bay Area and coast, all of that. Fishing here in Nebraska is just not the same. How can you compare fresh trout to catfish? No way! Maybe I'm too nostalgic, but every time I visit Reno I am reminded of how wonderful it used to be. I remember the old Cal-Neva with its ancient slot machines. And downtown just isn't the same without the Mapes. Maybe that's true everywhere...

I think your right. I am a LA native born and raised living in the South(for now) and every time we go back I just feel let down, its just not the same as when I was a kid or even when I was a young adult (now over 40)

So if you were raised in Reno then yes I would say you will always be able to say "It's just not the same" good or bad. The fact is that there are very few cities that are the "same" from your child hood unless your still a child. Anyone with 20+ years on them may have a hard time saying honestly that there home town is just like it was when they were a child.
