Default Where to live if you get a decent job in Reno

Just curious, I'd want to live far away from people with my wife and 2 kids...don't mind commuting a while to get into the city as long as I can live a rural lifestyle with SOME amenities. A 1 hour commute each way would be just about right. Having a supermarket within about 10 miles would work just fine.

We prefer areas that are relatively flat...doesn't matter what the surrounding area is like.

Would of course like to know that the people around us (however close or far we may be) are nice.

Want to essentially be left alone but would want to be close enough to schools for the kids and ensure that they are good schools. I have read plenty of bad things about Reno by browsing this forum but was wondering if there are some good quiet, leave me the heck alone enjoy my own life areas.

Any areas that you might suggest? Do any exist?

Thanks

So you want to live in a small town within an hour of Reno? Check out small towns such as Fernley, Dayton or Fallon (all relatively flat land). There are more rural areas on the outskirts of these towns.

Bear in mind that your internet access speeds will be limited and options may be very limited as well.

Just something to consider, we wanted to go that route but we need 50mbit at a minimum due to work.

Good comments and thank you. I am used to commuting much more in VA (2-3.5 hours each direction) so 1 hour would be a piece of cake I guess.

Another FAR MORE important question is where all of the international airports are. I have a child in the Fort Lauderdale area. The child flies up to see me in VA as it sits. The child needs to be on a non stop flight. I don't see any non stop flights between Reno and Fort Lauderdale/Miami. I checked Sacramento and the same seemed to apply.

Never stopped to think how big this country really is.

there are NO one stop flights from Reno/Tahoe International airports. From any East Coast City.

I use to travel a lot to NYC and there use to be a Jetblue from Sac to nyc and NYC to Sac but they phased it out a few times and broght it back a few times.

We do have private airports, here is a list I fly from Carson City to other cities with clients. of mine and it works out very well very smooth flying and no airport hassle.

Didn't know this but that is good information. I'll probably have to pass on the gig. The private jet thing is intriguing but I doubt a 12 year old can fly unaccompanied. What are the prices like? You have sparked my interest for sure.

Thanks

I have clients in HIGH PLACES lol

I don't know how much it cost, my clients fly me to and from for business some of them are pilots or they have someone fly us, but from reading your posts you give the impression that maybe you are someone who can afford a charter jet via a broker and you child and a attendant/medical assistant can fly together.

I know there are a few people who fly out of Minden/Tahoe in groups to the east coast a few tiimes a year. maybe if you called the airport they can hook you up with a broker.

Lol, just turned down the offer before you posted. Never know, they may try and mitigate/offer thoughts (next to impossible these days) but if they don't care enough to do that then I didn't want to work there anyways.
