My wife and I are planning to move out West within a few years. If your going to comment, "why here"?, don't bother. Our main reasons are we love the Western states and are active empty nesters. I also own my own business and want to have a reduced tax rate and we are seriously considering the Sparks / Reno area.

One of our concerns, though, is what is it like for sinuses / allergies? It seem like as far as I can tell, it's good overall. We live in Cincinnati now and I can't think of many worse areas than where we are now. It's in a valley, fairly polluted and this year we are on track to get somewhere between 46 and 50 inches of precipitation (no that's not a typo). It rained 26 inches here in 3 months this year (and 4 inches so far this month). Our pollen count puts yours to shame I would guess. When I was younger, I had the mentality rain is great for farmers. This much is insane and it seems to be a trend here.

We are thinking with the overall arid climate, my wife, who suffers badly from sinus congestion / headaches, might get the relief she is looking for (along with better activities and much more to do of the things we like).

My question is, do you know of anyone that suffered bad from sinuses that moved there and has it been better?

Actually, I checked the stats here yesterday. It has officially rained 56 inches so far this year (all time 100 year record) where we live near Cincinnati. I can't wait to move West there. Any one have any feedback on sinuses? I have searched the thread and can't find anything at all. Perhaps it not that common of a problem there (I hope). Here, there's an allergist / ENT specialist on every corner.

I do not have an answer on sinusitis....but, now that you say it , I have not had a sinus infection since I moved here...odd!

I am highly allergic to the ragweed though and it blooms like crazy here, spring has me putting away the allergy pills....lol!

Sounds like you have your heart set on Reno, I hope everything comes together as you desire!

I think you will be very surprised how much better your wife does in the drier climate.

Coming from a family with asthma, we all seemed to do better in the drier climates.

BTW, if your wife hasn't tried one, I can recommend a Neti Pot. Rinse the sinuses with salt water and she'll be surprised how sinus problems disappear.

Thanks so much for the responses. Thanks for the suggestion on the Neti Pot. We do have one of those. We were so hoping it would be better out there. We are planning a trip out there in Spring to check out the area and housing. From what I gathered, pollen can be very high out there on the negative. On the positive side, it is much drier out there (where you have pollen in the high range right now, we have pollen near the high range with mold off the charts), the barometric pressure is much better and pollution is much better out there than here. We really appreciate you responding. For us moving, it's between Reno / Sparks, Phoenix and St George, UT (each place has it's advantages / disadvantages). We're leaning toward Reno / Sparks and doing lots of research on that area.
