Default Sectioon 8 N. Nevada

Few Questions about Section 8

just wondering If i am renting a 3 bed in N. Nevadathat allows Section 8 an then I apply and get my Section 8 will I have to move to a smaller apartment since I am single?

Another Question,

If I am living in Carson City and I get my Voucher for Section 8 Can I use it for a Section 8 property in Stateline, Nv Lake Tahoe?

Another Question?

Does Section 8 come around snooping every year? I was told that they do asking about what you have in your apartment, where you got it, how you purchased it etc.

thanks for your help

If you are not "gaming the system" and have something to hide, why would you have concerns?

Example

"How often is my income reviewed?
Every household that receives housing assistance must undergo an annual recertification. You will receive a notice regarding this approximately 60 days prior to your scheduled recertification date. We will also send you forms that you are required to complete and return in order to verify your income and continued eligibility for the program. When you receive this request for information, you must respond by the due dates stated in the letter and have the documents completed. If you have questions or need assistance with completing the packet, please arrive a few minutes earlier. Failure to attend your appointment may lead to termination of your rental assistance. Also, approximately 90 days prior to the anniversary date of your last HQS Inspection, we will schedule and conduct a re-inspection of your unit. This date will change each year. You or someone 18-years of age or older MUST be home for this inspection. Failure to ensure entrance and an adult presence may result in the termination of your assistance."

I don't know about Nevada, but on the East Coast, your section 8 is city specific.
The annual inspection is an "apartment" inspection, they check the condition of your apartment and it's appliances, they don't inspect your "stuff" ... if you have nice stuff from before you were poor enough for section 8, you can keep it without question. They just need to make sure the housing is being kept up to standards and appliances and roofs, ect., are replaced as required.

If you can get a place to live for the price allotted to you, it makes no difference how much bigger it is.
If they say you qualify for a 1 bedroom at 500 dollars and you can find a 12 bedroom for 500 dollars, you can keep it.

You can call your social worker to confirm if the rules in Nevada are the same as the East Coast.

Good Luck finding section 8 though, as the rules are so against landlords that only the desperate would even consider them.

you should probably find out about 'voucher portability' This became an issue in some Northern California cities last year when large numbers of people were getting their voucher in San Francisco, then renting houses in Vallejo and Fairfield because they were cheaper and had a larger number of section 8 rentals. Last I heard Vallejo quit allowing any renters whose voucher was not obtained in Vallejo.
