Maybe if the orig poster visited Carson City you will see how boring Carson is NOT!
Besides if you want what's left of state of Nevada jobs, that would put you in Carson City anyway which is the capital. Another thing: if you for whatever reason don't want your car to have to pass smog, (either "it won't" or "you just don't want to be bothered") then you can't live in Washoe or Clark counties. Just keep that one in mind. No smog regulations for cars in Carson County.

Yes. Boring and very calloused. If Lake Tahoe wasn't there, it wouldn't have ANY redeeming value. Reno is also described as a very "transient town." Better yet, a friend who was transferred there, and then moved away referred to is as a "mean little town."

Growing up at the lake, I only went to Carson to get to Reno. Then, I lived there for 7 years. If it wasn't for meeting my hubby there, I wouldn't have lived there past the 1st year.

Washo is between the both and does not have a walmart. SO you're comeing next spring... btw there is a new Walmart opening in Gardnerville south of Carson City.

Yes, Lavender is correct about a new walmart opening in Gardnerville. It is like Minden would fit the original posters needs

Lived in Carson for six years and cried when I had to move to Reno due to losing my job. I'm single, looking and in my late twenties.....the social life in Carson was fine for me to meet people, and not having a car and relying on my bike + JAC to commute was easy. For the occasional late night, there was always Capital Cab.

I don't get what people don't like about Carson City....really, I don't.

Default moving to Carson city

We are making the move soon and I'm super nervous. I've been reading all these post and they go back and forth....some of you HATE it and some of you LOVE it. A lot of posts on here are so old though, so I'm not sure what to expect. I thought we did our research. We are a young family (well our kids are young anyways lol). I don't need a "nightlife" but it would be nice to find like minded mamas to hang out with and fun things to do with the kids. I've lived in Cali all my life but even with everything at my doorstep, it can be boring. It just depends on perspective, what you like to do and if you have the money. I'm hoping I'll like Carson because I'd hate to move again

The only opinion that really matters is yours. When you ask where the best or worst place to live is, the wombats sometimes come out. You will get all variety of responses, some informative and well thought out, others nothing more than personal prejudices. I have friends who live in Carson City and they love it. If you're looking for big city excitement, Carson City isn't a big city. However, that is precisely the appeal for some people. You are within easy reach of Reno if you want to go there.

One suggestion, something I have done everywhere I have moved: Check out the neighborhood during the evening. Some neighborhoods transform dramatically once the sun goes down, and not always for the better. Check to see what kind of people are around, the noise level, the amount of traffic, etc.
