`Thinking about coming to Reno for the gun show. Looking at reasonably priced hotels and am considering either Silver Legacy or Grand Sierra Resort (which is where the show is). Is one better than the other? Any tips?
We usually like Peppermill when we come to Reno, but it is a bit pricey on those dates.
Thanks!

GSR Is much more upscale then SL better rooms..... SL is very Ghetto and the weekends its VERY VERY Hip Hop Ghetto. Look into the Atlantis as well Kayak has some great rates.

I would also stay at the Grand Sierra Resort, and go hangout at the bar Mustangs. They have live country music and great drinks.

It hasn't. SL is still a fine place, though not on the same level as Pepp or Atlantis. The "ghetto" stuff is baloney. Plus you have better gaming, better restaurants(Eldorado), Circus Circus(low rollers), Harrah's, etc. GSR is by itself and always seems boring to me. Have never stayed there, though.

Silver Legacy just remodeled all their rooms. GSR only has nice rooms when you book at their "SUMMMIT at GSR" rooms while their regular rooms are sub par like Motel 6. If you want to hang out downtown, I'd book at Silver Legacy or Eldorado. Eldorado rooms are quite nice too. They are NOT ghetto. I guess you could stay at GSR and take a taxi downtown to party and back but then again downtown you can just walk around. There's awesome new restaurants and bars downtown like Campo (a trendy, hipster authentic Italian joint [antithesis of Olive Garden]), JB Mapes, Chocolate Bar (it actually serves a full dinner menu no, not chocolate frosted steaks and chocolate pasta), Beaujolais (French restaurant), Bowl (incredible gourmet food in an ugly, small restaurant), and lots of bars and clubs. Also try priceline and bid on 3.5 star hotels downtown. no I don't work for priceline.

I stayed at the Eldorado, the Grand Sierra Resort, Circus Circus, and the Silver Legacy on my trip last year.

The Eldorado has pretty good service but their standard rooms are looking a bit worn. The rest of the casino property is pretty good and the restaurants are also very good.

The Grand Sierra Resort (the standard rooms) are very acceptable - pretty close to the Hilton/ Marriott type rooms. I like the feel of the resort and there is a lot to do on the property. The restaurants in the resort are pretty good.

Circus Circus Reno gave me the best room of the bunch and was the lowest price. I know that ranks up with Ripley's Believe it or Not but the room was really great. However, navigating the property - room to casino, garage to room etc. was the worst.

Silver Legacy had a very acceptable room with more amenities. However, it was the smallest of teh rooms. Service in the hotel was absolutely excellent. The room service was excellent.

I don't know what is "ghetto" in any of the properties.

Personally, I would stay at the GSR as it is much easier to stay near the show.

When I mentioned Hip Hop Ghetto I was referring to the TYPE / Class of people who visit mostly from CA every weekend. Maybe some of you are okay wth THOSE TYPES. But I am a Ritz Calton Gal & THOSE TYPES are not of my level.

Oh, THAT ghetto. I know what you mean. I'm old school. It's a little depressing seeing how the kids dress these days. Attention deficient.
Maybe GSR would be better, in that regard. There's a city bus back and forth, but you're probably not interested in that.
Since you're a R-C gal, just book the Peppermill Tuscany rooms and you'll have the best in town. (Yes, I know you said it was too much.)
