I have very strong offer for a job in Reno. I am not sure if my husband will find a job a reno, but he may have much better options in Sacramento, being a bigger city. We have two young kids. Will it be possible for us to stay at a single place and commute daily in different directions ?

This is bad idea!! Commuting over I-80 during the winter will be a problem. But Colfax is about halfway and a nice little town.

Thanks for your response. Will I-80 travel in winters still be an issue ?

Could be. Every single winter is different. Some winters the road is closed more than others, some winters you have to have either 4wd or chains to get through in the event the road remains open but there is weather to deal with.

Last spring my son spent 2 days in Sacramento trying to get home from Spring Break activities in Calif. He along with a ton of other UNR students were stranded and missed their Monday classes due to I-80 being closed due snow/ice and several accidents and spinouts near Donner Summit.

Its a crap shoot and every single day from September to June could potentially have road controls of some sort in place.

It would be an awful commute - especially on Friday when the traffic from Sacrament to Reno is horrendous...
