We are looking to move to the Reno area in the next month or so. With a $700-900 monthly rent budget what are some decent family-friendly cities to rent an apt/townhouse for about 6months to a yr while we get a feel for the area and decide where we want to purchase a home?

I see several small cities on the map around Reno (Fallon, Carson City, Susanville in CA, Placerville, just to name a few) and wonder how these stack up in terms of being good, family-friendly areas. We do have little ones, so having daycare options are mandatory, as well as close to shopping and all that other jazz.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance and look forward some responses.

What exactly are your expectations for "good"?

I would recommend an apartment in a suburb of Reno - these areas seem to be the most "manicured", as well as close to variety of coveniences (grocery stores, daycares, shopping malls, etc.) One thing you have to keep in mind with smaller communities is that you are also going to be very limited in what is available to you (though Carson city is fairly sizable, so I can't speak as much regarding that.)

But in the end, it's like tortoise said - "good" can be a very subjective term.
