We are looking for a 1/1 condo or apartment for no more than 950/month. We may consider a small home in safe area up to 1200-1300/month, if it's possible in that price range.

What areas do you recommend? My wife would be working a little SE of downtown.

Can anybody recommend any good apartment or condo complexes?

Even better, if somebody could recommend a Realtor that deals with rentals, it would truly be appreciated!

check out craigslist. If you drive, you can usually get anywhere in Reno in 15 minutes within the McCarran Loop. Downtown has condos but pricey to rent. The Residences at Riverwalk have swamp coolers not A/C. There are many nice old houses in Midtown which is just south of downtown and Midtown is our up-and-coming bohemian hipster neighborhood along S Virginia from California Ave to Plumb. Avoid east side of Virginia St although it's not too bad. Avoid these streets: Montello, Wedekind, Grove St, Neil Rd, anything close to the Peppermill. The further south you go the nicer the neighborhoods (west of Virginia St) with the exception of around the Peppermill, then south of the McCarran Loop on the west side things get really nice but further from downtown and boring. Sparks is okay but I get tickets there all the time and they do nothing but look for DUI drivers. Nightlife sucks in Sparks. Avoid the area east and northeast of downtown between downtown Reno and Sparks. NW Reno is nice and outside the McCarran Loop there's many apts there. You should be able to get a nice house rental here cheap. I'd avoid the North Valleys bc it's so rural and it's a ways to get downtown relatively speaking.

Thanks for the lay of the land! That helps a lot.

We are going to line up an apartment at this point so we can do everything online before we head out. We area very excited about the move! Can't wait to see the mountains again and see that big western sky.
