Hello,

Some of you may remember my other post about wanting to leave Reno. Well, long story short I found a great place to live for the next year with great people.

We are getting ready to move in in about a week and I have been looking at internet providers. I have Charter at my current house and it is terrible, shutting off randomly all the time. I work from home so reliable internet is crucial.

Has anyone in Reno (specifically near UNR and TMCC) had uverse? Did you like it? Was the connection reliable? Or is Charter just better for the area?

Charter costs $20/month while uverse costs $30/month so price isn't a huge deal when split between three people. I just would like to know what is the best connection to rely on? Thanks!

CHARTER $20 then it goes up to about $35 after 6moths or a year what ever your deal is.is for basic channels you can get those for free with bunny ears. Get a Apple TV $99 one time charge and you can get hulu, netflix etc get the bunny ears for your local channels much cheaper and a lot more channels and movies. WOOPS thought you were talking TV...... I say go with the one with the longest deal because those intro prices are great once they expire you are hit with much higher fees.

If you need higher speeds Charter is the only choice. If you're having connectivity problems it's easy to get a tech out to trouble shoot. as far as prices, I'm paying $29.99 for 30Mbps internet and it hasn't gone up in over a year.

I've had ATT DSL (3 mbps) for the last few years, and just switched to Charter because of all the hype about 30 mbps, and I got rid of our phone landline, and switched to Magicjack. Honestly, our DSL was better! Friday, and Saturday night suck, it slows down and I'm not impressed. While it is acceptable most of the time I've never run the speed test and seen more than 10 mbps.

I lived by tmcc I specifically compared charter and uverse ...honestly it depends on what you need but if you're looking at cable internet together then diverse. Here's why uverse has promotions for bundles and that may include paying you to get service...they pay in the form if a preloaded debit card u can use for pretty much anything anywhere and they send it within like 30 days...or they could credit your account instead if u want...I got 300$. Also there's different speeds of internet and packages for cable. I got the package where you get starz, HBO,Max 1000's of movies and series you could watch(kinda like Netflix but newer stuff also and its freakjn free!!!!, tons of DVR space(trust me I record alot of crap), that's besides a crap load of regular channels like Sundance MTV SciFi and well every popular channel pretty much.. even a couple Spanish channels! Facebook channel (yup you can check fb and update your status )with sports package and multiview option so u could watch like 5 different games (superbowl football, soccer, basketbsll, golf, every sport that i know including college games besides the professional games! from diff channels at the same time! On demand stuff is movies that just came out like within a week or wtvr which u would have to pay for but I don't event care because after 3wks its free under your premium free movies section. If u have Att for mobile service u can get an additional discount, u can search for a movie u want to watch and if its not on it'll show when it will be and you can choose right then for it to be recorded whenever it does. Diverse app on mobile phone let's me control my DVR from anywhere. Uverse.com lets anyone watch free movies, music videos, series but if you have diverse service you can log in for access to the more popular and more access of them. I have the fastest internet speed they offer...you Dont have to get a contract deal for all this with discounts. The only thing I noticed of channels you have to pay seperate for adult channels lol..but well if u have a smart TV like mine that also works like a laptop that's not an issue lol So...all that being said for cable and internet I pay 130$ a month oh and also this includes my own wifi, and channels are in HD so I can take advantage of my 50' samsung smart LCD HD TV ...and I'm a 24yr old girl...I shouldn't know this much lol and no never worked in advertising or for Att...I work in the field of healthcare

By the way never had issues with service or payments...unlike charter which I had for 3yrs before this and omg never had all this for that price...theyvdont even confuse u with wanting all the features its pretty easy and all bundled up in packages so u know exactly how much and what your getting.

The quality of service you'll get (speed wise) depends a lot on where you are located, both for DSL and cable. I get 50Mbps most of the time, 30Mbps with occasional drops to 20Mbps. If had to rely on 6Mbps DSL I'd be spending a lot more time waiting for large customer databases and less time being productive.

For most people that's not an issue, get the best deal you can and go with it.
