Default How are the schools in the Carson City, Gardnerville, Dayton areas?

I'll be coming to Carson City this next weekend (11/17) for a new job, and will be looking for a rental house in the area. We have 2 children in school, 3rd & 6th grades, and finding a good school is an important part of deciding where to look to live. They've been attending a public charter school that has an intense focus on academics (Singapore math, latin, spanish, etc.).

I doubt we'll find anything resembling their current plan, but would like to hear some feedback from as many as possible about the elementary and middle schools in Carson City, Gardnerville and Dayton areas. How is the teachers attention to the students, overall dedication to helping, special school programs for advanced students, extracurricular opportunities, etc. Anything, good or bad, that would help me make an informed decision.

Please reply with your experiences, impressions and such. Specific schools examples would be helpful too. I'm leaning towards living to the south of CC, possibly in the Sunridge area or down in Minden, but that may change depending on how the schools are there.

Thanks to all.

Come on folks. Let's get them some answers. I can't help with the Douglas County school situation because I don't know anything about it. Let's get them some info from someone in the system, okay?

rmm64, I know you asked about elementary and middle schools, but I know nothing. However, this might provide some insight into the school system.

Douglas High School is located at the north end of Minden, but they also have an off campus facility. It's a different building.

I don't know if it's similar, or the same thing, as a Charter School, but it's for the bright kids. They still participate in certain functions at the high school, but they take their special academic-oriented classes together.

I makes sense to me. Rather than being slowed down by the lowest common denominator and ending up being bored by the slower pace, they are placed in an envirnoment where they are challenged and can rise to a higher level.

That's about all I know about the school system. Hopefully someone else will pipe in for you.
