I am really confused....every time I turn on the local news I hear about Reno referred to as the Truckee Meadows. I have not lived here very long but I know we are at least 30 minutes from Truckee depending on what part of town you are in.
Can someone please explain this to me?

It's not just Reno. Sparks is also part of the Truckee Meadows. The valley(s) fed by the Truckee River = Truckee Meadows.

The Truckee enters the valley, years ago the entire valley was marshy wetlands. The immigrant wagons turned south near the sewer plant, went through Hidden Valley, camped at Donner Springs then headed west crossing the Truckee River at the west end of town before heading through Verdi and into Dog Valley, crossing the Verdi Range at Second Summit.

The lower valley flooded until a large ditch was built near the East McCarran bridge which finally drained the valley.
