We are looking at retirement communities and just came across sierra canyons.

Any info is appreciated. Also - are there any short term rentals so we could try out the community?

We will be retired and looking for cool summer. We play bridge and pickleball and i do ceramics. We would want access to good medical care and will be on medicare. We love to travel so we appreciate access to the airport but wonder about fares - i think the airport is more limited than phoenix for example.

we really need to check out the area so this is just a start.

Thanks in advance.

Reno has some pretty high airfares and lacking in non-stop destinations.

You could call some of the apartment complexes and ask if they offer 6 month leases. Also check on Craigslist for someone looking to sub-lease.

I don't know about brindge and pickleball here. But there are ceramics classes at the art museum and the community college.

We looked at Sierra Canyon (the Del Webb community in Somersett), too, although we chose a house in south Reno instead. Sierra Canyon is nice but pricey. One of the major advantages, we thought, is that it has its own clubhouse, which has a pool, exercise room and indoor walking track. HOA fees seemed reasonable for what you get. There aren't a lot of resales there, although there are some.

Reno's airport is fine, but comparing it to Phoenix would be a big mistake. Phoenix is one of the largest cities in the country. As utsci said, non-stop destinations from Reno are limited, so fares are higher, often considerably higher.

I think we would want a planned community since we don't know people in Reno. I am guessing that the del webb community provides lots of activities so we would meet people.

Any info on the activities at sierra canyon?

Thanks so much for info.

Hi - it lists amenities but not activities. Many other communities show a calendar of activities and that gives a good idea how active the community is.

Thanks for any info.
