Rose hwy. We were trying it out but found it was to cold, windy and not a friendly town at all. Our neighbors were not friendly, people we would visit at church were stand offish and we were so lonely for friends it wasn't funny. We did love the hiking, trails, being so closes to Tahoe, cheap bowling and movies at the GSR and even though we are not gamblers, we took advantage of the "free money" the casinos gave us. We won quiet a bit in a short time. But with all the fun outdoor activities, when you don't have friends, it's a lonely place. We are a married couple and don't do the bars or that kind of scene so if we weren't hiking, we were at home. Loved having Trader Joe's and Whole Foods and because my husband flew every other week, he loved the airport. The Peppermill has the best deal offering 20% off in restaurants and gift shops to locals. I wouldn't like living in Virginia City because it's really small. It's a fun place to go see and take friends and family to see but I would not want to live there. We found that the housing prices are really going up too. Good luck.
I agree, we lived in Reno for 14 years and our experience was pretty much the same. We have made more friends in 6 months in Northern California than in all the time we were in Reno, and the weather is so much nicer here. How do you like the Central Coast?

We love the Central Coast. Came here for the first time 22 years ago and this is like the 4th time we've come back living here for a total of about 13 years. We had always wanted to live in Reno and think it's beautiful, but to us having friends is a MUST. We love being back on the Central Coast but finding the housing market is about to explode again so not sure how long we will stay here. We're exploring other parts of the country where we have many friends. Thanks for letting me know 2Sleepy about your experience.
