Yeah, for us in the valley it's a big thing. We don't normally get that much, which is nothing compared to lots of places.
The news reported that it's been anywhere from 5 feet on up to 8 feet or more in the Sierra, including Lake Tahoe, for this weekend. I'd like to see some pictures of that. I certainly don't plan on driving up there, at least for now.

Well here in the frozen north you got more snow than we did, Alaska is a bit shy on the snow amounts for right now, but we have plenty of fridgid tempertures for you. I would much prefer the snow than the freezing temps currently 6 degrees with lows over night -6. Can;t wait to move south for the winter months even if it's still 37-41 degrees, sounds good to me about right now.

It's a pretty area up there. It has lots of snow in the winter depending on where you are on the lake (it is in the Sierra Nevada), so have some winter clothes in your closet, snow tires for the winter, and chains in the back of your car. A four wheel drive (or AWD) vehicle will be very helpful at times. The housing is also expensive.
Lake Tahoe is a big area. You can be in either California or Nevada. You can live in Incline Village (NV), Stateline (NV), South Lake Tahoe (CA), and other places around the lake. Depending on where you locate, traffic can be an issue in the summer because of the tourists. This is especially true for Stateline and South Lake Tahoe.
For Nevada, the counties that reach the lake are Washoe, which is the county that includes Reno, Carson City/County, and Douglas County. Of the three counties, Douglas has the least expensive tax structure. Douglas County has Stateline and the casinos on the lake.
In June, all the snow will be gone and the tourist season will be in full swing. The lake will be full of boats and water sporting activites, and the beaches will be full. It'll be an active area.
Otherwise, your request is rather broad. If you have some specific questions, people can probably answer them a little better than I did. I just tried to provide some broad info for you.
I'm sure your sister will have some good input for you, too. Her easiest access to Lake Tahoe would probalby be up Mt. Rose Highway, which is from the south end of Reno. It would put her closer to Incline Village than Stateline or South Lake Tahoe.
Good luck with your relocation.

I was in South Lake Tahoe around Dec 9 til Dec 24 when I flew back out to NZ, traffic around the South Lake Tahoe/Stateline was quite amazing, just seemed non-stop, definantly very busy.
