We have friends who will be performing at Boomtown Casino in September, and we're considering coming up from Las Vegas for the show. From what I can tell (being unfamiliar with Reno), Boomtown seems a bit isolated from the rest of the casinos. Are there other places within walking distance to stay? Not that I mind staying there (at least, I don't think I mind), but looking for other options.

Flights are $100 R/T, and the rooms are $100/nt. From the airport, it looks like a 15 minute drive. I would probably rent a car to do some exploring, but I am assuming that a cab to the venue would be a fairly inexpensive alternative, although I can't find Reno on any of the taxi fare calculator sites. Any other suggestions?

There are no other places within walking distance of Boomtown. It's a nice casino but I have never stayed there so I can't comment on what the rooms are like. It's about 2 miles or so to downtown Reno. There is a Cabela's store next to the casino and that's about it.

They renovated most of the rooms a few years ago, and the hotel is OK. But you're right - it's isolated. Downtown Reno, where you'll find many more hotel options, is about a 10-minute drive, but as long as you aren't expecting Bellagio or Caesars Palace, Boomtown is fine.

Thanks for the replies. We may actually drive up, since we normally go to CA or AZ for weekend trips, not North. We'll book the room at Boomtown.

Avoid Boomtown's lobster buffet. I know people that drive up from the Bay area to partake but I wouldn't attempt it based on the reviews I've read.

I live close to every buffet imaginable to man, so no need to be adventurous with buffets there I'm more of a diner guy anyway, but thanks for the tip!

I would rent a car and stay downtown or at the Nugget in Sparks. You should do a lot better than $100 per night.

We stopped at Boomtown to check it out last month. We tried to sign up for one of the players cards as they had been sending me 2-3 e-mails a week for various promotions. We waited for about fifteen minutes at the front desk as the ONE front desk clerk was handling the check-ins and the players club.

We ended up walking out after a while.

We're going to see our friends play that night, and the band is staying there, so I would rather stay there as well (convenient for meals with them, etc). $100 won't make or break us. I was just wondering if there were others that may be nicer next door, etc..
