Bragging rights for Reno residents and maybe something here of interest to people considering moving to the area. I don't think I can directly link to Zillow, but the link to the blog with the article is on this page:

I left Reno a few months ago after giving it a try for 2 years. The only thing I missed is the fact that I could easily afford a house on 1 salary and that I had nice long walks with my dog.

... I appreciate looking at that article, too! DW & I continue to "research" that whole area ... Including all the small towns (Gardnerville, Minden, Dayton, Carson City), and the Reno / Sparks areas. I forwarded the link to the Zillow article to her, so she can get a look at it, as well.
Unsure about whether we will want to spend-more-$$$-for-less, by the time we get to fully-retire in about 2.5 years, but the whole area remains on our 'radar' as a possible-maybe.
...
Thanks, Y'all! ... TC

I miss the mountains
There is just something awe inspiring when a storm is blowing in coming over the Sierras or you walk out your door to cloud capped peak of Peavine with snow on it or you look around at all the mountains and hills when they are dipped in snow. Yep, I miss the mountains

The article incorrectly implies Tesla, Apple and Amazon are moving there. Apple has a server farm on the edge of town that is exempt from sales and property tax. Amazon moved a warehouse there from rural Nevada and cut the number of employees in half. Tesla is building a battery factory with $15/hr jobs. 40% of Washoe County (Reno, NV) high school students drop out. Reno has a a boom-and-bust economy that is really susceptible to "busts"!

I'm not a Reno apologist, I moved back to California last year because Reno just wasn't a good fit for me, but I am going to take exception to your comment about Amazon cutting the number of employees in half. That simply doesn't make sense since they offered every Fernley Amazon employee a job in Reno- that is not something they would do if they were cutting their staffing by the amount you claim.

Have you thought about Idaho? We've been researching other areas besides being here in Reno when my wife finishes College.
