There's not a lot of things to do here for anyone of any age.

And you think it is different anywhere else? Newsflash; Mayberry is a street, not a real place.

Mayberry may out of reach, but a well run school system is not. Programs get cut, more cuts on the way, we need some sort of state tax, or a plan, other states have a lottery where a portion is earmarked for education, why not here? everyone knows schools here are in trouble, Casinos are sacred cows cant get more revenue there, the teachers tried, is there no lottery because of gaming industry?

NY? You've got to be kidding. The private schools maybe, but the public schools? Ugh.
I moved here to get away from the "tax everything for schools" mentality. Please don't ruin this state with the same.

do you have school aged children? If you do not I understand why you would not care, although at some point it will affect you, maybe in quality of life issues,Nevada 49 in USA school rank, and out of the 5 or 6 states I mentioned you picked NY, NY gets a bad rap but NY ranks 9 or 10 nationwide. Stuyvesant and Brooklyn Tech, both public schools are ranked in top nationwide, anything close here in Nv.? I dont like paying higher taxes either but the schools here need help, what is your plan?

I went to public school in NYC for most of my life in an affluent section of the outer boroughs. Class size on average was 35. One teacher. No TAs or any additional help in the classroom. "Recess" in grade school was spent on a large concrete slab with zero play equipment. We had a bunch of portable classrooms. We still managed to have extra curricular activities, band & orchestra programs, various foreign language classes, and art classes.
My public high school graduating class size would have been bigger than most small colleges, but my parents had enough of the catering to the lowest common denominator and yanked me out to put me in private school so I could at least get the teaching to pass the Regents exams.
Commuting on public transportation at least 2hrs each way to either Stuyvesant or BT wasn't exactly something my parents wanted to put me through.
I plan on having a baby within the year, so yes, this issue affects me. Or I could home school or pay for private school and therefore not deal with the ridiculous behemoth known as "public education." Throwing money at a problem doesn't solve it. The solution is to do things more efficiently, and spend money wisely.
The schools need to show they know how to manage the money they already have and put in place some effective cost controls before having the audacity to ask for more money.
Raising property taxes or sales taxes will result in LESS funds available for schools -- basic economics.

NY lol? NY is ranked 10 nation-wide, NV ranked 48th, not much of a laugh there.
Question, why in a state that welcomes casinos and gambling is there no state lottery? the lottery systems in the states ranked 1-10 in education help fund the school systems. This beats tax increases.

there is no lottery because the casinos and state govt have an agreement that the state won't implement any sort of lottery because it would run competition with casinos.
the casinos don't give a dam about the area except how much more they can get from those who enter their doors, be it a local or a tourist.
