I need specific info on the best areas and schools for teenagers (Reno: appliances, buying a home)

I have lived in Southern Utah my whole life, we need to move to Reno/Sparks for my husbands employment. I have 3 teenagers and I am worried about drugs and getting them into great schools. What would be the best area for living and going to school?

Great schools? Dont come to Reno then! Seriously, I can't really help you on that because I have found the schools here to be really inadequate and dismal.

The schools here in Nevada in general are not very good(I have 2 kids I will be home schooling next year) But I have heard the schools in the Spanish Springs area are OK.

It just depends on what you want. As you saw Reno HS is ranked best in the area, and one of the top 500 in the nation, so old SW or around there would be good area. It has a lot of character as well as a good location.

I agree that Reno High is considered the best in the region. Look into southwest Reno- zoned for Reno High. It is a wonderfully convenient area. Not sure why there is so much negativity on this board. Everyone I know loves living in Reno. Good luck.

I lived in the SW, close to Virginia Lake for @10 years. Be glad that Reno seems to be a well-kept secret. In my view, Reno provides the highest quality of life in NV.

I think if you come from CA, with a wad of $$ and have no problem buying a house at outrageous prices, then sure, you love NV.

Try coming from the East coast, where you had a beautiful 4 bedroom house with an acre of land that you bought for 140k, in a lovely area, with good schools, and then try buying a home here! Impossible.

You may have rose colored glasses on, but the truth is, the education here is plain awful. I have talked to a lot of people of late, and why am I surprised they all home school!

We were only in the house 6 months and had to move to Reno, so when we sold, we only made 19k profit, then you have to minus estate agent fees, minus the money we put in to the house in new hardwood flooring through out, new bathroom, new kitchen appliances -- we didnt walk away with much, and the rest went on moving here.

You get so much more for your $ some places East than you do here.

My BFF just bought a house in Maine, 4 bedrooms, full finished basement,
1 1/2 acres of land, 2 living rooms, formal dining room, eat in kitchen for $90,000.
