I don't drive in snow or ice. I checked historic weather conditions, it doesn't look like I should see snow or rain, but there should be below freezing temps. I was wondering if i 80 freezes, or the latest time to leave where I can get dry roads. Thank you

It varies from year to year and is impossible to predict this far out. Last year in mid-October I-80 had snow and chain controls in effect near Donner Summit. Two days later it was 60 and sunny, with clear sailing on the interstate.

I usually drive to Reno around that time. I haven't had snow in years. 80 can get snowy but 395 stays pretty clear. It's the Sierras though. I remember leaving Reno one year and I had a huge snow storm behind me all the way till I hit Independence.

My mother and sister drove up here from LA last October and it was clear. I went down with them in early November and it wasn't bad at all. Just a bit chilly.

If you can be flexible with your travel times and can keep an eye on the weather and road conditions, it shouldn't cause much concern. It's the primary traffic route over the mountains for this area. If bad weather does happen, the road crews are out there almost immediately to clean the roadway.
