I'm pleased I could be of a little help. Hopefully, many others will jump in with some info for you, too. In the meantime, good luck with your house sale! |

I live in the N.Valleys area...there are 4 elementary schools between Lemmon Valley, Golden Valley, Stead and Cold Springs. There are newer homes as well as older homes in the area, though, not a whole lot in the way of land unless you go to the back part of Lemmon Valley. I've lived here for 2yrs and have not had any safety issues at all.
If you're looking to buy, you can keep an eye on the real estate buy checking out the Remax site for Reno in general or go to prunevada.com....if you're looking to rent, you may want to try RGJ.com...that's the local newspaper. AppleOne is a temp agency....It seems as though a lot of the employers are temp agency happy around here....but you can also try Manpower (they have a web site) Express Personnel....Integrity Staffing..Sepherion (they also have a site)...Washoe County...City of Sparks, City of Reno and State of Nevada...and Nevada Job Connect....renotahoejobs.com...workreno.com I hope this helps a little. ![]() |

Garth,
In Sparks, are there areas better than others? I see what appears to be newer housing on the east side of the city. Looking for investment residential property, leading to a move to the area in the future. Any suggestions? |

I grew up here and still live here, and I wouldn't live in Sparks. There isn't anything wrong with it per se, it just has a different vibe. The areas mentioned so far are newere and are tract-homes.
The only place to avoid is Sun Valley and near Oddie/Silverada in Sparks on through the North Wells/9th St part. West to Evans, East to about Sullivan, maybe a little further. It isn't a war zone, but for Reno it is the worst. The North Valleys are ok, but any moeny you save in rent you will spend in gas to get to town. Old Southwest is the best--lots of old trees, great schools, close to shopping, cool bars, great parks. I'd say when you get here just drive around. If the neighborhood looks expensive, it is. There is no nice looking but high crime area. Old Southwest has smaller homes but they are old and really cool--and not all the same. |

I agree, old SW is the nicest.

I think the best thing would be to (when you can) drive through the different areas dicussed (minus N.Reno) and see what you think about the areas. Some areas have different sections that area more perferred than others. For instance, Lemmon Valley, I like the back part going toward the Stead airport better than the front part. |

Thank you for all of the great info! We are hoping to visit soon so we can see for ourselves what all of this looks like. I am sure it will be much different from north Georgia!

DONT DO IT!!!
My wife and I moved here in Dec. 07'. Boy what a mistake. There is a huge homeless problem here, lots of crime, and the police are lame. It is windy waaaaaaay to much, and it is the #1 place in the country for internet crime!!! I got downsized shortly after moving here due to the economy and have not been able to find a job yet. And stay away from Sun Valley area, total scum area. All the thieves live there. Compared to Cali though, you can buy a really nice house for half as much, but then there would be MORE Californians here, or should I say Mexicans! Graffitti EVERYWHERE!!! ![]() |
