I moved out of an apartment about 50 days ago. I left the old apartment my forwarding address three days after moving out. About a little over a month later I go to my old apartment to ask them why I haven't received my refund for my security deposit yet. The woman claimed that she sent the info to corporate and that the check would have been mailed a week prior, but was sent to my old apartment address. I told her I gave them my new address and she said she never received that message, took down my new address, and told me if it still hadn't been forwarded to my new address to call back in a week (I already did a change of address through USPS and have received other mail items from my old apartment just fine). I call her back after nothing has shown up, and she claims that she will let the corporate office know and they'll supposedly just void the old check and mail out a new one. I was told they should have sent a new check out ten days ago to my new address, and still nothing. Today I finally demanded that she take action to at least get confirmation that the new check was actually mailed out. She told me she couldn't do this as there was no way of reaching accounting at corporate to ask.

At this point I am beyond frustrated as I know the law gives apartments in Nevada 30 days to issue a refund for security deposits. I'm not getting anywhere with them except claiming they've sent me these checks but I haven't received anything yet as of 50 days now, and no one is willing to confirm that anything has actually been mailed to me.

Besides going straight to small claims court about getting my money back, is there anything else I can do in the meantime to get some answers/help? The apartment office here just claims corporate is in another state and they can't do anything because they don't write the checks themselves.
Any advice on what I can do next would be appreciated.

I would stop doing all this verbally. Make a paper trail.

Find out where "corporate" is and send a letter to both corporate and the apartment complex. Make the letter specific (on ___, 2016, I did ___) -- saying things occurred after 3 days, 10 days, etc. is just too hard to follow. Don't assume people will try to figure it out; state the facts.

Mail the letter Return Receipt Requested, so that you get a card back as verification that it was received (and, of course, keep a copy of your letter). That will likely wake them up. If not, it can be part of your evidence for a court case.

Thanks for your response, I will work on mailing a physical letter (with tracking) to both the apartment and their corporate office and hope that gets the ball rolling.
