Hello everyone and happy holidays!

I currently live in Idaho, and am considering a move with my 2 small children to Spanish Springs.

I do have a few questions though. Are Spanish Springs and Sparks basically the same city? Like if I live in SS, will I be able to do all of my shopping there, or will I have to drive into Sparks? I have been told by a friend they are basically the same town. Can someone give me some more info and the differences between the 2?

Also, what is crime like in SS? Can I feel safe walking the streets at night with my 2 small children? Is there a gang problem at all?

And lastly, what is rush hour traffic like? Is it as bad as Reno?

Thank you

Spanish Springs is not a city. It is an area within the city limits of Sparks, on the north end.

Most house in the SS area is brand new and you have most of the daily necessities nearby.

Traffic throughout the Reno area is not bad at all.

I second owelles ... Spanish Springs is not actually a city. It is a large area in north Sparks.

There is plenty of everyday type shopping just south of SS. You would not need to drive far for most things. The area near Los Altos and Pyramid Highway has a lot of shopping with many box stores. There is Costco, Kohl's, Walmart, Sonic Drive In, Michael's, Home Depot, and more. Many people prefer the Costco in SS to the Costco in Reno as the one in SS is less crowded. One of the local places is Blind Onion Pizza...try their pizza with honey dip. In the heart of Spanish Springs there is a grocery story at Pyramid and La Posada.

If you travel into Reno during commute time you will experience traffic on Pyramid or whatever major street you use to get into town. SS does not have great freeway access compared to other areas of Reno/Sparks. However, if you plan to stay in SS, traffic should not be bad at all.

There are a lot of newer homes in SS and there are also a number of older ones. New home construction is ongoing. The area is still growing.

According to a police acquaintance, not much crime in Northern Sparks. Southern Sparks on the other hand can get sketchy, depending on the neighborhood. As others have said, traffic heading into Reno in the morning rush can be bad, seems to be on the upswing since they started building more in Spanish Springs.
