As a long time SoCal Resident, now semi-retired, we're looking at Reno/Carson City to Retire. Wife and I are outdoorsy...walking, trekking, mountain biking and such. More sun than snow and we don't like summer heat of 90+ but we do love the small town feel and sense of community.
We would love some comments regarding new or newer, or great old neighborhoods. Your thought about access to healthcare and such. What do you like /dislike.

Reno summer is not very hot due to altitude and low humidity. Depend on where you live in Socal, Reno can be cooler.

Here are phototours of few Reno's neighborhoods. More will be post later.

See this thread:

Sparks vs. Carson City

As far as healthcare, I've heard it's OK but not great. I would expect this to improve as Tesla (and now Google) opens and more jobs bring more people.

Yeah, that's great, thanks for all the images. We plan a small trip end of May this year just to get a general Idea. Our ideal home would be single level up to 2000 sq feet.

Thanks

I can tell you that homes in the $300-$450k range which are priced right are being snapped up. Unemployment rate is 4.2%. Depending upon what you want in a house (lot size, view, how much wind can you take), inventory is on the low side right now.

We like the Pleasant Valley, Somerset, Gold Hill area in Placerville. I've applied for a job there. More rural. We'd like some land.
