Las Vegas has some great area's, I visit frequently due to it's proximity to Los Angeles. I at a time was very tempted to move to Henderson. But I am finding myself curious to Reno, having been to Vegas so many times already, hence my questions regarding a visit

I was not knocking Reno...though I prefer Douglas County up that way.
Note that 15 follows the RR right of way and was basically an industrial area particularly to the north east. Actually it was pretty close to all industrial save that part that was open desert. A little civilization above the Preserve but that was about it. I still find it intriguing that the industrial area between the strip and 15 continues in many areas. You would think the casino corridor would chew all that up as it has done around the southern strip.

Does the show appropriately portray Reno? Not the people of course, but the actual look of the community. Is there a lot for tourists to do or is it just a gamblers paradise? How is the shopping for a tourist? Looking through the pics I can't believe how green Reno is! Does it snow there? So many questions!! Sorry guys, but I really appreciate it!
PS- Any good gay bars?

Gee, I think the point of the show is to show the interaction, and workings of ANY group of co-workers---not Reno, or police work. The ensemble's work is far greater than the individuals'---much like the Seinfeld show. If you think this show portrays reality of any form---you need to seek professional help.

Of course, one can argue Douglas County is their preference, as the inhabited areas of this county, Zephyr Cove, Genoa, etc are very picturesque indeed. But, reality dictates, most will need to live near jobs, and services in Washoe Co. Douglas Co includes much of Lake Tahoe, and life there is very different from Reno, etc. Washoe co provides a great locale, close to the mountains, streams, and other factors viewed as desirable.

Hey, Brea OC, nice to see the old homestead represented! I grew up just down the road from downtown Brea in Fullerton. What's happening to Brea in terms of revitalization is AMAZING! And much the same is going on with Reno. The leaders decided about a decade ago that the town would have to undergo substantial urban renewal or die out from an exodus of younger people. Now there is a lot of N. California money flowing in and the effect is dramatic. Reno is well worth a visit anytime but especially in Spring and Summer. Be careful in August during Hot August Nights unless you love crowds and high prices. The Peppermill Hotel/Casino on South Virginia St. is very nice and not too expensive. The Siena off Virginia St. downtown is very nice but pricier. You can get a room overlooking the Truckee River above the fifth floor.

No. The majority looks to be filmed in "the valley", San Bernadino Co, or the like. Only "stock" shots of Reno landmarks seem to be used. The city Reno most reminds me of, is Boise--- clean river running through the heart of the city, close proximity to mountains, a relatively mild 4 seasons, and both very underated by the masses--- good thing for those who have discovered these places.

I saw a palm tree in a residential neighborhood on an episode of Reno 911 and I can't remember if I have actually seen any in Reno.

I lived in Reno for 12 years before moving to Las Vegas and always thought that it was very brown but you have not seen brown until you've lived in Las Vegas. Now I think that Reno is very green. My husband and I would someday like to move back to Reno but we need to ride out the housing market here and wait for real estate prices to continue to fall in Reno before we can consider a move. I like both cities for different reasons: Reno for beauty and outdoor activities, Las Vegas for it's economy and higher income of its residents.
To the person who wanted to know about shopping in Reno vs Vegas. Reno casinos are more like downtown casinos in LV. Not a lot of shopping, shows mostly on weekends, not a lot of over-the-top dining, etc. LV is definitely geared for high end customers while Reno is more for smaller budget folks.
