I am a new resident and need to get a Nevada driver's license and registration. In my old state, the wait was no more than 5 minutes. But I am told in states like Massachusetts, it is 4 hours.

I am worried there will be a huge wait in Nevada, since they offer something called an Expedited Services Permit:

Nevada Disabled Parking

They must offer for a reason!

I can't stand for too long, so I will bring a foldable chair with me if necessary.

Thanks!

You should make appointment ahead of time and enter your cell phone#.

You still probably wait 15 minutes. There are multiple chairs for you to sit down and wait. You only have to stand up and walk to the window when your number (last 4 of your cell phone) is up.

Thanks Nn2036! I checked, and the next appointment is February 15! Such a long wait! Maybe I will go at 7 AM to be the first in line!

Can you try the Reno one?

The problem is: before the DMW open, people already wait standing outside. It will be difficult for you to stand that long in the cold outside

Be sure to get all the paper work before you go to the DMV, especially proof of insurance, Emission check, out of state license and registration (need to be up to date).

You should also bring additional documents to get the "Real ID" compliant license
DMV to offer Real ID driver?s licenses

Before going in the DMV, you should drive your car straight to the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspection area first to get that paperwork (small station to the right of the Reno DMV).

Thanks so much! They are booking for Saturday, February 3 at Reno. But that made me check again, and I got an appointment for noon tomorrow in Carson City! I must have scrolled the wrong way last time I tried.

Please look at my previous post to make sure you got all the document needed.

It is very annoying to wait so long and then be told to go home and get more document.

Thank you! Tomorrow will just be an informational session. I have 7 questions to ask them and their phones always tell me they are too busy to answer.

I plan on going to the police to fill out the VIN form, even though the car is new, from a dealer in California. Why do they make me do this for a new car? Anyway, I bet the place next to the DMV in charges to check your VIN.

I am not sure if the police can do VIN or not. I look on Google map, there is a small booth on Oregon street right behind the Carson city DMV , the sign say VIN inspection station very clearly. You can do it tomorrow too.

You are totally right! I never thought of even looking. That will be my first stop then.
