Hello,

We are moving to Reno in the next few months from CA for my kids' school. We are strongly considering new construction and having never purchased one before, I'm not sure if we should be using an agent or not and I'm reading conflicting info. Would appreciate your input/advice. Thank you!

The main advantage of using a buyer's agent for a new home, in my opinion, is to get their knowledge of the local market, especially if you're moving from out of the area. A good agent should be able to tell you if a home is overpriced, underpriced or priced right. It shouldn't affect your bottom line. Agents might get a commission from the builder if they accompany you on your first visit to a new-home community and you eventually purchase, although that isn't always a given. But a buyer's agent's services should be free to you, so there really isn't a downside.
